Have you ever believed that Betsy Ross designed the first flag of the United States? Well, that old childhood tale is false and a congressman names Francis Hopkinson created the first flag. The flag is an emblem of the U.S and shall never be disrespected. The flag, for some people, can just mean a piece of fabric, but for others the flag symbolizes much much more.

In 1776, apparently George Washington had personally asked Miss Ross to design and make the first flag. That was a myth. Her grandson had told stories of how Betsy had created the flag. Although, Miss Ross had made a flag for the government it wasn’t the very first flag. People were mistaken when they believed the first flag because the flag she did design was a famous flag. Her flag had thirteen stripes and thirteen stars in a circular formation. This is a famous flag that first appeared in the 1970s and is very well-known. The first change was on January 13, 1974 because two stars were added to the flag. One star equaled one state, so that is the reason for so many alterations. On June 24, 1912, there was a new format so the flag would be proportional with one another. The president wanted the flag to be perfect and straight. Each star shall of the point facing upwards. The president at the time was President Taft. The President wanted the flag to be aligned perfectly and straight so this alterations were necessary. A lot of of the other alterations, although, weren’t because there was a problem, but new states were added to the Union.
