Modern society has increased the importance of parenting style. It represents the different approaches parents use to raise their children. Understanding parenting styles are effective to prepare the children to meet the society. Raising children can be difficult especially as the years and generations go by. Back in the day there wasn’t a specific way to raise children it was only based on how every generation has been raised. Not until psychologists were interested in researching on how parents affect child development. Psychologists found actual cause and effect links between specific actions of parents and later behavior of children is very difficult. Parenting style is a determinant factor in child development. It affects psychological and social functioning of the children. In the article Impact of Parenting Styles on Child Development, it mentioned that “Parenting style is largely affected by the influence of one’s own parents.” As well as, temperament, educational achievement, culture, and the influence of their spouse affects parenting style as well. How parents respond to and discipline their children greatly affects how they develop, both cognitively and socially. Since parents are normally a fixed presence in a child’s life, they tend to have the most significant impact on whether his development is positive or negative. They lack social skills as the parent generally decides what the child should do instead of allowing the child to choose on his own. Children are socially withdrawn and look to others to decide what’s right. “Authoritarian parents don't explain the reasoning behind these rules. If asked to explain, the parent might simply reply, "Because I said so” (Why Parenting Styles Matter When Raising Children). Although these children are well mannered, they tend to do things behind their parents. There’s strict rules that is set by the parents which lead children to think that they’re being separated from other. Permissive parenting style on the other hand is completely opposite than authoritarian style. For that reason, authoritative parents have an open communication with their child which leads them to be socially accepted. However, Permissive style of child is accepting, but it avoids making demands or controls of any kind.
