The War of Spanish Succession is another example of when Scottish politics was seen to be of lesser importance to English ministers. King Carlos II of Spain died in 1700 without an heir. He left the Spanish throne to Philip of Anjou, the grandson of Louis XIV of France. England saw this, as a threat as of France and Spain would become united when on the death of Louis XIV. Louis XIV recognised James II and VII’s son as the rightful heir not Queen Anne. This led to the Spanish War of Succession, which was fought to ensure the threat of French dominance in Europe. Scotland, again, was not considered in this decision and was completely ignored on whether they wanted to fight in this war. This decision by English minsters prompted Scotland to pass
William Wallace is considered a legend in Scotland. For years, England and Scotland were at war, and behind many of the battles for Scotland’s independence was William Wallace. While the information about him, like any good hero, might be over exaggerated by some historians, what’s true is that he gave the country hope that Scotland could be free from English Tyranny. For years after he died, others took his place in saving Scotland from English rule.

Most of his sibjects were protestant and did not like the idea of Catholicism being the religion theyd have to abide by. like his father and brother king james the second ignored the peoples wishes and ruled without Parliament and relied on royal power. an English Protestant leader wanted to take the power away from james and give it to his daughter Mary and Her husband William from the Netherlands. William saled out to the south of england with his troops but sent them away soon after they landed
of the English Prayer Book in Scotland which although supported by Scottish Bishops, sparked off unrest, riot and violence in Scotland which led to the need for recalling of Parliament and to the beginnings of the English civil war. One could truly say that 1637 was the zenith of Charles' personal rule, even his rule as a whole. The necessity for Parliament after the riots in Scotland to finance the First Bishop's war meant that Parliament could pressure Charles into giving into their demands. On top of that, the First Bishop war was contagious and uncontrolled rage that shortly spread throughout the whole of the Kingdom and through Ireland and also parts of England. After 1637, Charles was now on a downhill struggle.
Wales and the Spanish Civil War There were many reasons for the men of south Wales joining the Spanish civil war most of which can be divided up in to the following categories; Political, Economic, Social, Cultural and Religious. The most important of which I feel is Political as I think you can find that all these other problems stemmed from the political reasons. It was these political reasons that had the most impact on the miners and ultimately more than any of the others encouraged them to actively join the war Spanish Civil war, which was being fought over the political division between the right wing nationalists and the left wing republicans. Although all the world powers had signed an agreement of non-involvement Nazi troops from Germany and soldiers from Italy were sent to help the nationalists. A total of 174 welsh men joined the international brigade to help the republicans along with Scots, Mexicans and Russians in order to fight for their communist beliefs and in an attempt to stop the spread of fascism across the world.

The English realized that the Scottish were growing stronger and brought an army to Scotland. The British are guilty of many of the indignities suffered by the Irish people. They are also guilty of causing all of the religious and territorial conflicts between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland.
Devolution is the transfer of powers from a central body to subordinate regional bodies. In Scotland, Devolution was set up to restore legitimacy to a system of government that reflected Scottish preferences. The reason behind the demand for Scottish self-government is that Scotland had the historic status of nationhood before the Union of 1707 and within the Union, has a different set of legal, educational and religious institutions that reinforce a Scottish identity.
“The Conquest of New Spain” is the first hand account of Bernal Diaz (translated by J.M. Cohen) who writes about his personal accounts of the conquest of Mexico by himself and other conquistadors beginning in 1517. Unlike other authors who wrote about their first hand accounts, Diaz offers a more positive outlook of the conquest and the conquistadors motives as they moved through mainland Mexico. The beginning chapters go into detail about the expeditions of some Spanish conquistadors such as Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba, Juan de Grijalva and Hernando Cotes. This book, though, focuses mainly on Diaz’s travels with Hernando Cortes. Bernal Diaz’s uses the idea of the “Just War Theory” as his argument for why the conquests were justifiable
This was first brought to his attention in 1633 when he visited Scotland to have his coronation in Edinburgh, he noticed the ‘lack of ceremony and unscripted prayers’ and therefore introduced the New Prayer Book in 1637. Furthermore, the Puritan Network was a core group of opposition to Charles even though Parliament was absent, influential members of the network include Lord Saye and Sele, John Pym and Oliver Cromwell. In addition, the trial of Prynne, Bastwick and Burton caused further resentment towards Charles and his Personal Rule as they were accused for attacking the bishops. Moreover, the religious problems continued in Scotland with the First Bishops’ War because Alexander Leslie was the commander of the Scots and a ‘veteran of the Thirty Years’ War in Germany’. Also, most of the Scottish fighters were also experience with fighting as they served in the Swedish army fighting the cause of Protestantism in Sweden. Religion was the basis for the start of the First Bishops’ War and it was a headache for Charles after he tried to impose religious reforms to Scotland.
