The Earth is the ecosystem in which we live, and therefore it is to be protected at all costs. However, many people do not take the matter of nurturing our planet seriously. Most people are extremely ignorant of the amount of water they consume, the garbage they throw away, and the opportunities to recycle that they let slip by. People from the south seem to think that recycling is more a part of the “northern” culture than it is theirs. Sadly, people have yet to realize that the Earth is their home, and they would never treat their physical homes with the same amount of neglect they do their Earthly home. The two older ladies of the family rated their level of care over the environment a 7 out of 10 on the scale. The three younger ladies in this family’s answers ranged from 4 to 6 on the scale. Like family #1, this family also has designated bags for plastics, cardboard, and soda cans. Since they have five people in their family, they estimated that they probably use more water than others, but they take protective measures to conserve as much water. For example, they limit their bath time to 10 minutes and wash their and brush their teeth for two minutes. These farms have spread all over the globe, including large areas required for the animals to graze. The trees that are torn down in these areas are “vital to maintaining Earth’s atmosphere,” yet these rainforests are being torn down every day (Macionis 534). Humans do not realize that they are the problem and the answer for our world’s safe environment.
