Banning Cigarettes This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages.
How do u think smoking affects your body. The use of tobacco is dangerous and it could cause he/she too have cancer. Tobacco smoke harms nearly every organ in the human body including these major organs lung, liver, eyes, skin, uterus, and penis. As you inhale cigarette smoke, the 7,000 or so carcinogens begin to swirl through the caverns of your body, beginning in your esophagus and winding up in distant locations you wouldn’t give second thought to. The truth is, for all its declining popularity, smoking still emerges as the single greatest preventable cause of death in the United States(“Weller”).
“Many of the restrictions on tobacco advertising are designed to prevent young from being exposed to it” (Smoking). Above I already mentions that smoke affects all over the body organs; some body organs are too sensitive. “Tobacco contains more than four thousand chemicals, some of which are known to be poisonous or cancer causing” (smoking). Therefore, chemical found in tobacco cause lung cancer and other types of cancer. In the articles “Tobacco and smoking 2004”, it’s written that lung cancer kills more American than breast and prostate cancer combined, and tobacco accounts for over 30% of all cancer deaths and a comparable fraction of death due to heart and lung diseases(National).
The Negative Effects of Cigarette Smoking One puff equals one life of misery: Smoking at first can seem harmless, but ones’ choice to experiment with cigarettes can turn into a costly habit, that is addictive and eventually, deadly. According to Factslides, “ Smoking a cigarette causes damage in minutes not years”. Every cigarette is filled with harmful chemicals that will leave someone with health problems and cancer, wishing that they hadn’t started smoking in the first place. Smoking is a problem among most adults and sadly, teenagers. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, and it is a disgusting habit.
Facts of Smoking There is no doubt that one of the most prevalent unhealthy activities worldwide is smoking, which is essentially about burning tobacco, and subsequently inhaling the smoke that comes out of it. The prevalence of smoking can be captured in World Health Organization’s (1) statistics as the organization cites, “Nearly 80% of the world's one billion smokers live in low- and middle-income countries. Tobacco kills nearly 6 million people each year.” Many people start smoking because they think that it will relax and adjust their mood. Studies have shown that smoking has many damaging and many bad effects. Smokers think that smoking is not bad as much as studies showed, but I think that smoking is a bad thing and a bad habit and causes many diseases to human.
Cigarettes even have an effect on nonsmokers, it is something called second hand smoking. Second hand smoking is what includes more than 7000 toxic chemicals and more than 60 chemicals which cause cancer. Even if a person doesn’t smoke, cigarette still harms human beings. Cigarettes carry tons of toxic chemicals. Some which are so crucial to an individual’s health.
Plague and cholera caused thousands of millions of people dead. Thanks to the medical advances, those diseases were eradicated. Now, when the whole world is worrying about AIDS, which has not found the solution yet; the appearance of tobacco is causing the great harms to human life. Many people think that they have the right to smoke; smoking helps them deal with stress and work more effectively, and they are contributing to their country’s economy when they smoke. On the other hand, people will get addicted to cigarette.
According to the latest data released by the Center of Disease Control, almost 44 million adults in the United States are regular smokers, and this figure does not even take into account underage smokers. The effects of smoking are extremely widespread, even more so than the CDC’s data suggests, because individuals can be affected by second or third-hand smoke. As more research is done, society has become increasingly aware of the harmful effects of smoking that are affecting so many throughout our country. Smoking is detrimental to an individual’s health, because “when [a cigarette] is burned, it releases a dangerous cocktail of out 4,000 chemicals including: more than 70 cancer-causing chemicals, hundreds of other poisons, nicotine, a highly addictive drug, and many additives designed to make cigarettes taste nicer and keep smokers hooked” (Cancer Research UK). It is no wonder that cigarettes are sometimes referred to as “coffin nails”, because each one smoked is a metaphorical nail driven into the person’s coffin.
Cigarettes carry many health concerns, more than any other tobacco related product. Nicotine, the primary psychoactive chemical in tobacco and therefore cigarettes, is addictive. Almost half of cigarettes smokers die of tobacco related diseases and/or issues and lose on average about 14 years of their lifespan. Due to all these health concerns that cigarettes cause, the production and selling of cigarettes should be made permanently illegal. The only problems with making the production and selling of cigarettes illegal is although tobacco related deaths would drastically reduce each year, crime rate and taxation loss would substantially increase.
The smoking of cigarettes leads to many serious and fatal health problems and because of those health problems caused by smoking in the United States smoking is the most preventable cause of death. Due to the four thousand plus chemicals in a cigarette the amount of illnesses that can come from smoking are endless. From lung cancer to heart diseases people are losing their loved ones because of the easy access to cigarettes. By allowing the sale of these toxic cigarettes people are able to easily subject themselves to a death that will come on average thirteen to fourteen years sooner than someone who is able to control themselves from purchasing something that is in front of their face anytime they go into a gas station or simply to get a carton of eggs from the grocery store. By the government allowing the purchase of cigarettes they are allowing people to slowly kill themselves.
