The Benefits of Greening a City
Sustainable development is a major world issue in recent development.
Its main idea is to meet the needs of present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs, greening of
cities is a very distinctive practice of this idea.
Practical measures include planting tress along road side, increase
the greening area of the city like increase the number and area of
urban parks and perhaps country park too; setting law to restrict
environmental degradation such as the release of air pollution by
cars, factories, also the treatment of solid and liquid waste before
discharge.
Having low cost for maintenance and replacing new things is one of the
most obvious benefits of greening a city. Due to the increase in
vegetation, the air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen
dioxide of the city decreases, the formation of acid rain decrease,
destruction by acid rain and acidic rain to buildings and roads that
made of concrete decreases.
Having a clean city can reduce other negative impacts of pollutions.
In city with prolong high air pollution index, high medical cost
always need to spend on huge number of patients suffer from
respiratory disease such as asthma, lung cancer. Water pollutant
released by factories will pollute sources of water, poison our
drinking water and contaminate our food, medical cost also needed to
be spent on food poisoning patients.
Efficient use of energy is another benefit. In the greening policy, to
minimize unnecessary less use of energy is encouraged, this in turn
reduce the burning of fossil fuels and the cost of purchasing it.

However, the economic growth is very important in the development of
Hong Kong. The environment measures will increase the production cost
of some of the industrial activities as the treatment such as
electrical precipitator and filters are costly. The treatment of
sewage in sewage treatment plant involve large piece of land and high
building and running cost. With the increasing competitiveness of
other places mainland in mainland, the companies in Hong Kong do not
want to increase their production cost, otherwise they market size
maybe reduced.
The increase in size of urban and country parks may lead to intense
land use competition as urban land developers would like to turn it to
urban land use such as commercial offices or high class residential
properties to learn money.
City life is an entire different way of living than life outside of the city. Living in the heart of a major metropolitan city, I travel over 30 miles to work that some say is located in the middle of the Midwest cornfields. Life in the city moves at a faster pace. I find people often are walking quicker steps, seemingly to always be on a mission to get somewhere, usually in a hurry. Shopping at one of my city’s local big box food store, I find that most people are pleasant enough, but do not go out of their way to speak. They typically appear to be in their own world, in a hurry to purchase their good, so they can get to somewhere else. The store worker’s rarely make eye contact and sometimes tracking an employee down for assistance can be non-existent. On one recent visit, it took the store over 10 minutes to find an employee to assist me with acquiring an object in a locked cabinet.
Cities all over the world are developing. As war ended in 1942, a significant number of people move to the city because they want to improve life. This urbanization process is causing a number of problems and should be met by sustainable development policies. In the beginning, it is important to know the definition of sustainable development. There are some definitions for sustainable development, but simply they say that sustainable development is a development which using resources now and preserving them for future generations (Adams, 1999, p.137). This concept has been agreed internationally at a Rio Conference in 1992 to be implemented by all government policies which mostly known as “Agenda 21” principles (Adams, 1999, p.141). This paper will show that traffic jams and housing problems caused by urbanization can be met by sustainable development policies. The structure of this paper will first explain the situation that leads to traffic jams and housing problems. Next, it will elaborate the sustainable development solutions, implications for the solutions, and evaluations how effective the sustainable development solutions solved the problems.
Going green in the workplace is a new trend in business. In choosing to go green in the workplace you may be challenged by an elevated initial start-up costs, however savings earned from this investment will more than pay for those initial costs in the future. Many people see this as a controversial issue, and granted it does have its own unique set of pro and cons, but if a business makes careful choices going green can prove to be very rewarding. Companies are doing this to save money on energy expenses as well as deploying it as a means to help reduce the carbon foot-print they are leaving behind.
The Negative Effects of Urbanization on People and their Environment As our world becomes increasingly globalized, numerous people travel to urban areas in search of economic prosperity. As a consequence of this, cities in periphery countries expand at rates of 4 to 7 percent annually. Many cities offer entrepreneurs the potential for resources, labor, and resources. With prosperity, cities also allow the freedom of a diversity of ways of life and manners (Knox & Marston, 2012). However, in the quest to be prosperous, increasing burdens are placed on our health and the condition of our environment.
This will and has already increased health care costs, and decreased the amount earned by the workforce because many have to take a sick leave. For example, the Ontario Medical Association has stated that air pollution is responsible for costing $1 billion each year in medical expenses such as hospital admissions and absenteeism (Example). Therefore, if everyone does his/her part in reducing pollution, worker productivity will be improved, industries will improve because their productive magnitude will increase and in general, a lot of money will be saved (Canada and

Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.

In a world where over half of the human population calls a city their home, the need to restructure and revolutionize the way we design our urban environments has never been greater. Currently, the notion that these vast metropolises of metal, concrete, and sludge could one day be fully realized pillars of sustainability is certainly laughable. However, when these same cities are constantly growing and multiplying across the globe, all the while using a greater and greater chunk of our planet’s energy, this impossible task becomes a necessary focus. To strive towards the closed, continuous loop of “true” sustainability could greatly alter the image of the modern city. Any improvement over the current state of urban affairs could carry weight, and even if that goal is not entirely fulfilled, the gained benefits would be immense.
Pollution is so harmful to human beings. Polluted water can cause many kinds of diseases, such as diarrhea, enteritis, and so on. And sometimes the diseases even take man’s life. Dirty air or air-borne garbage causes stinging eyes and running nose. Pollutants are destructive. They will cause runs in stockings and crack rubber tires and they always eat away at stone and rust iron. Time and time again, there are serious accidents that polluted the air. For example, At 1986 there was a bad accident at a nuclear power station in Russia. A cloud of radiation crossed the whole Europe. It is said that 125,000 people died in Russia as a result of illnesses caused by that accident. In 1984 there was an accident at a factory in India and a dangerous cloud gas covered the town of Bhopal. Over 2,500 people were killed that night, and hundreds and thousands of people were injured. Many of the injured lost their sight, and it really dangerous, even in our imagination.
A green building (also referred to as sustainable building or green construction) is a structure that employs an approach that is responsible for the environment besides being efficient in regard to resources all through its life cycle: This is from selecting the site to designing it, constructing, operating, maintaining, renovating and demolishing it. To achieve this, the client, the engineers, the architects and the entire design team closely cooperate at all stages of a project (Yan and Paliniotis, 2006). Practicing Green Building complements and expands the conventional building design areas of comfort, durability, utility and economy.
Sustainable buildings are becoming somewhat of a necessity in the world today. As the demand for green building develops, so does the demand for green building materials. Just as the old techniques and building materials seem to disappear in the assembly of things, they are now making a come back. Green building focuses on the efficiency of major resources like water and energy. As the cost for sustainable materials and products are on the decline, building green seems to be the most cost effective kind of design and construction. Looking specifically at green materials and their impact on the production of structures, it is evident that they are a prime choice for building material. The use of green materials should be promoted because they are better for the environment, more healthful for the consumer, and better for the economy.
Another important aspect of green architecture is the integration of energy efficient mechanical systems and conservation methods. Green buildings are designed to reduce or eliminate the dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, green designs further help to minimize waste through the use of gray water recycling and other sustainable energy strategies. Grey water is conserved or saved to be recycled to water gardens.
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes.
