Nursing Career Research
After researching many nursing careers there are three that are stick out. Although salary is a big deal today, one must be aware of the specifics of a job to make sure they enjoy the job. Three interesting nursing careers are a nurse educator, traveling nurse and an pediatric nurse.
When thinking of a nurse educator, the name is self-explanatory. As explained in (“15 Highest Paying Nursing Careers [Infographic]”, 2017) a nurse educator is someone who has experience in nursing, and has obtained a minimum of a master’s degree in nursing. Depending on where one is going to work some work places require a doctorate degree, but others do not. When one hears about traveling they may get excited. Although there are perks to this job, one needs to keep in mind that there are disadvantages as well. According to (Traveling Nursing: An Overview, 2017) and (What You’ll Do as a Nurse Educator, 2017) being a traveling nurse has many perks. A traveling nurse will usually be sent to a different place for about 13 weeks to work. If a nurse is sent out of the country, they are usually sent for a year or two. While being able to travel a traveling nurse also can choose their jobs, meaning they can deny offers. A traveling nurse usually works for an agency and the agency sets everything in place for the nurse. They find them jobs and their living in the area. A traveling nurse is usually hired because there is a lack of nurses today. If a certain hospital or specialties needs a nurse, they will hire a traveling nurse for the time they need them. A traveling nurse then has the same job as a normal nurse. They are able to do basic patient checkup like checking patient history and vitals. They are also able to talk about treatments with patients and diagnose. These are only a few of the things that they can do. In addition to so many perks, when working with an agency for a while they in most education can pay for ones continuing education. Being a pediatric nurse means working with a pediatric doctor. To become a pediatric nurse, one is required to have an RN degree. An RN degree ranges anywhere from 2 years to 4 years. One is required to have an up to date RN License. Nurses are also recommended to take Certified Pediatric Nurse credential, this may also require 1,800 hours in a pediatric clinic. Although they are not required to, it may lead to making more money by having a Certified Pediatric Nurse credential. (Average Salary for Certification: Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), 2017) state that a Pediatric Nurse usually make about $62,156 yearly. ( Pediatric RN: Job Description, Duties and Requirements, 2017) Also explains that a pediatric nurse can work with children and give them care in child illness or injury. They may also help with checkups, vaccinations, drawing blood and distribution medication to the patient. The nurse may also give the family information on healthy diets and nutrition for the child. Over all a Pediatric nurse must be able to work with children well and be willing to sit down with the patients’ parents and explain things to them when it comes to health.
