From the start of the American Civil War, 1860, until the end of the Reconstruction, 1877, the United States of America endured what can be considered a revolution. Prior to the year 1860, there was a lack of union because of central government power flourishing rather than state power. Therefore, there was a split of opposite sides, North and South, fighting for authority. One major issue that came into mind was of slavery. At first, there were enactments that were issued to limit or rather prevent conflict to erupt, such as the numerous compromises, Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850. They did not fulfill the needs of the states, South states in particular; therefore, in the year 1860, the Civil War had commenced. There was the issue of inequality of Blacks in suffrage, politics, and the use of public facilities. However, much constitutional and social advancement in the period culminated in the revolution. To a radical extent, constitutional development between 1860 and 1877 amount to a revolution because of events like the Emancipation Proclamation, Civil Rights Act, the amendments that tried to change African Americans lives in American Society and contributed to get the union together. There is the social developments as well that to a lesser extent had amounted to the revolution because of organizations like the Klu Klux Klan, Freedmen’s Bureau lacking, and discrimination against African Americans that caused progression of violence and white supremacy.

It is important for nurse practitioners to not only understand the changing policies regarding scope of practice, but also how to advocate and contribute to the development of health policies (Dzubur, 2015). As nurse practitioner students, we can increase our exposure to political changes to practice by joining organizations such as California Association of Nurse Practitioners (CANP) and attending events such as Lobby day.
Senior nursing students will complete a QSEN weekly clinical journal requirement learn how to self-assess their progress toward demonstrating these nationally-based competencies. The students will select a different competency each week to address and discuss how they applied that competency to patient care or how they hope to better achieve that competency as a graduate nurse. By the end of the clinical rotation each student will have had a chance to focus on each of the six QSEN competencies: patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety and informatics. Relate personal learning style to preparation for the NCLEX-RN: Critical thinking and being able to work together with the healthcare team is a key to be a successful nurse and providing the best care to the patients. A nurse should understand the disease process to fully understand how to care and organize a plan to care for assigned patient. This concept will also help me learn and understand better and eventually apply this knowledge toward NCLEX as well. My goal is to exhibit the use of my critical thinking skills throughout assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care (ADPIE). Much of the nursing school courses specially medical- Surgery centered around evidenced based which now I can see how to relate them into capstone course and eventually helping me to pass NCLEX.

For this assignment I had the pleasure sitting down with Emily Petermeier and getting an insight on what the real nursing world is like. Emily graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in May 2015, and got a job at Fairview East Bank Hospital. This interview really helped me understand what it is like to be a new nurse and the dedication that I have to have going through nursing school and throughout my career. The view of nursing is now more in depth and well rounded than before attending this class. Also, I now have a better understanding that scientific knowledge has a huge impact on nursing. Before taking these specific classes this semester I did not realize how much of a role science played in the nursing career. This quarter has really shown me that a nurse is not a "task monkey." The goal of my learning plan for this semester is to develop skills in health education specific to adolescents. I chose this as my learning goal because my placement this semester at Sunnybrook Hospital, Injury Prevention Program, gives me an opportunity to provide health education to high school students every Tuesday at out P.A.R.T.Y. Program so I thought I should use this opportunity to develop my and improve my nursing skills in this area. As well as good health education skills to adolescents can benefit the students by proving them a motivating learning environment and better learning outcomes. I hope they can enjoy my teaching and absorb the information and use them in the future. I have considered many factors in the process of developing my learning plan such as the nursing standards of health promotion, prevention and health protection, professional relationships, capacity building etc… I brainstormed possible topics such as possible topics that are related to injury prevention itself for example, concussion prevention or preventing sports related injuries. I also thought about doing topics that are relevant specifically to the P.A.R.T.Y. Program such as teenage suicide and prevention or distracted driving. After assessing my placement and the clients which in this case are the students, I have recognized that one of the program’s goals is to educate the students about injuries and injury prevention. In conclusion, nursing practice in critical thinking guarantees success in the health service and its importance lies on this. It is vital that nurses develop their skills to keep the organization during the nursing process. Additionally, nurses need to use their evidence-based research, analyze and diagnose exactly. To be good nurses need to develop highly developed thinking skills that lead us to deliver higher quality health care.
