Self-Assessment

*As my first year in the nursing program comes to a close, I am to write this assessment based upon my abilities in each of the listed outcomes. I know I have much to learn, but I have also gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the short amount of time I have been a part of this program.
For the outcome, Clinical Competence I have learned the importance of the nursing process in my current class, Skills and Concepts. This information is relatively new to me, so I know I have plenty of room to grow in this area. I have learned how to utilize the resources that I am provided. One resource in particular is my pocket guide. This has been a useful tool in helping learn and write a nursing diagnosis based upon a given situation. As I progress through the rest of this class; I hope by the end to be more competent in ways of providing the best possible care while utilizing the nursing process.
The outcome Critical Thinking is one that I feel I will never have enough information on. This category leaves plenty of room for growth in new students or even experienced RN’s. I already notice how my critical thinking skills have expanded since I have started the program. My Health Assessment class that I am currently in has really helped me understand how to use critical thinking in different situations. We are given many …show more content…

I have been taught ways to provide culturally sensitive care, how to be an advocate for each of my patients and how to take responsibility for my actions. If there is a conflict I cannot blame others. I need to take responsibility for my actions and learn from them. This can be related to a book we read in our Skills and Concepts class. This book focused on ways of eliminating blame, complaining, and procrastination. Overall, I am hoping to learn more about professional values, and ways of incorporating them in our education, work, and person
