The Importance of Succession Planning

The importance of succession planning is vital in the Medical profession. Positions like Nurse managers are key component of healthcare facilities. Nurse managers have the responsible of supervising medical staff within the hospital. This also includes directing of the nursing staff, which means they have direct oversight of patient care while provide some administration on budget decisions. With all that said, it’s easy to see that nurse managers handle more than normal nurses. Instead of screening patients and checking vitals, they are supervising the clinics creating work schedules, leading staff meetings and handling personnel decisions.
Health care facilities are slowly accepting the idea on how important leadership succession planning before it is too late. John Maxwell, an internationally recognized leadership expert, points out in his 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership that “a leader’s lasting legacy will not be measured by the buildings we build, the institutions we establish, or what our team accomplished. Leaders are judged by how well the people they invest in carry on after they are gone”. …show more content…

The first is having Effective communication, as a nurse your on the frontline of healthcare. The ability to communicate with the doctors and patients seamlessly is key because most of the time within clinics you’re the middleman. Active dialogue makes the patient experience that more effective. Secondly being flexibility as a nurse is a great attributes to have.
