What is the point in earning money, only to not have time to spend it? Working and academics is a lot of stress on a student. High school is a time for students to focus academics. While some people argue that working in high school helps students learn life lessons, students should not work throughout high school because it increases stress, cuts childhood short, and is a distraction from high school academics. High school by itself is stressful, which is why students do not need the extra stress of working. Grades are what colleges primarily look at. To get into a state college, such as The University of Texas, you have to be in the top six percent of the student class. Although extra-curricular activities, community service hours, and a good resume is what can make or break a student in an application process, grades are the number one priority. Depending on the classes students take, they may have lots of homework and study time that they have to put in. If students are working after school, they will not be getting homework done. Once they get home from work, students are too tired to do homework or study. When students are at school, they won't pay attention to what is going on in class because they are tired. When they are working, they will be too tired from school and work, and will not do a good job. This is a lose lose situation. What are you really getting out of it? Most students will spend an average of forty hours a week at school, not including the extra time that is needed to study and do homework. An average part- time worker works between one to thirty hours a week. Students should not be taking on an extra thirty hours of work and stress on top of a 40+ hour school week. Every student has a breaking point with stress. Students should not be testing their GPA to drop, and try to take on a seventy-hour
