There are different types of high school graduates in America: some seniors already know what they are aiming for the future and some others wish not to know, while several others care less about their future – even if they are going to graduate in a couple of days. Few from the ones who are planning to go to college are just going to figure out themselves. Why go to college when you are just trying to figure out yourselves? Why should you not just take a year off for that? Taking a year off to refresh the brain would really help the students to decide on their future life. However, if all the humankind is going to performing the degree type work, then my question is who is going to be doing the labor work? What if there are plenty of computers in the society made by a person with a college degree, but no electrician (a person without a college degree) to make a use out of them. The technology would be worthless if there were no one to provide it to the people. In today’s society, it is too difficult to find an affordable and well-experienced carpenter or an electrician, whereas it is too simple to find those qualities in a Physician or a Lawyer (Murray 678). The question of the century is whether higher education is worth the price and everyone feels like they have the winning argument. The article I have chosen to write about that pertains to this subject is by Charles Murray and it’s called “Are Too Many People Going to College?” I chose this article because I feel that the author brings up valid points that resonate with me and my beliefs towards going to college. Charles Murray attacks the specific issue of whether there are too many people going to college. Murray using different viewpoints shows how he believes that too many people are going to college and I agree with his reasoning.
Once a person graduates from high school they are left with a difficult decision, wither to go to college or not. Honestly college at this certain point in time does not seem worth it. Everywhere else in the world college is free but the United States. People would feel more motivated to go to college if it was free. College is the main reason Americans are having to live such a hard lifestyle. My father did not go to college and makes eighteen dollars an hour. On the other hand my aunt did go to college and make twenty-four dollars an hour but is still paying back student loans so after paying all of her stuff back she only makes around fifteen dollars an hour that she gets to bring back and that doesn’t include taxes. When I began my senior year, the number one thing which people asked me was where I was going to college. Whether they actually knew me or not, that would be the first thing they asked once they found out I was in the final stretch of my high school career. Now, I obviously had a pre-planned answer for them, since I had answered the question so many times, but I always found it to be peculiar that people didn’t actually care at all about what I was going to do with my life; they just wanted to know where I was going to get my expensive piece of paper from.

College is unaffordable for so many people, teenagers and adults alike. Nowadays so many people choose not to go to college because it costs too much, yet it is getting harder to find a career job that does not require a college degree. It is nigh on impossible. Then, once one obtains a degree, it is still difficult. College websites brag about 50% of people finding a job in their certified field as if this is good, but it should be higher. I believe if college was more affordable, more people would be able to pursue their desired degrees without swimming in debt and not being able to find a job after college. This would help people receive a higher education that people would circulate into more diverse jobs instead of those that do decide on going to college being funneled into one program, for instance the nursing program. Stanford’s offer is a big opportunity, for the students to place themselves on a good future path. These kinds of offers would be a great assistance for the students who are not able to pay college tuition. However, these few colleges are not enough to fulfill the number of students who need free tuition. As we know, more students need more colleges with free tuition. Stanford University is a good model to inspire other colleges. Therefore, more colleges should create a free tuition option for students who are not able to pay for their tuition.
