Hello Tiera, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate is really good for soft issue injuries. When an injury happens soft tissue may damage. The soft tissue may bruise, bleed, swell, and may inflame. This can happen internally and externally. Eventually, the damaged tissue is replaced by collagen when healing. During that process scar tissue is usually formed. If you are into more of a natural approach I definitely think arnica gel or calming balms are amazing. I personally prefer anything natural to help with my healing process.

Al Toon, father of Saints receiver Nick Toon, was forced to leave professional football after sustaining nine concussions in eight years of professional football. Football is one of the most dangerous games. As the years go on, more and more rules are being written to prevent the danger, but danger is the nature of the game. Most of these rules are for the protection of the players, but there are times when injuries can be a good thing. The Philadelphia Eagles were 3-5 to start the year, but Michael Vick was injured and the backup quarterback led the team to be 10-6, win the division, and almost beat the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs. "About 1.7 million Americans suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI) every year, about three-quarters of them mild TBIs, or concussions" (Clemmitt). Traumatic Brain Injuries are used as the main form of evidence in Richard Cohen's claim that the end of the NFL is near, and quite frankly, his argument is pretty solid.
Icing a small injury can be a very effective short term treatment. Cold treatments decrease swelling, numb pain, and can limit internal bleeding. Icing doesn’t have to last for a specific time and depending on the injury and person the length of your icing should vary. One way I know when to be done icing is CBAN. C stands for cooling. You should first feel the coolness. Next will come the burning and the aching. Finally you should feel numb. The numbness is the key that you can remove the coolant. Even after the icing has been completed you continue to get benefits. “Intramuscular temperature continues to drop after the modality has been removed. Results of various studies are consistent on the effects on neuromuscular and pain process”, (Meeusen R, Livens P, 1986). When an injury occurs you also should always remember RICE. Rice stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Rest helps keeping the injured body part from overworking and straining ever more. The ice, as said before has many benefits, and can even help the injury heal faster. Compression will keep most swelling down as well as giving support to the injury. Finally Elevation is another way to keep swelling dow...
S: TM reports Acute Left Knee Pain. According to the TM, she was stepping into cell down the stairs and sudden pain shot though her left knee to mid tight. Reports the initial pain was sharp shooting like pain; 10/10. After Ice X 20 minutes helped to decreased her pain to 8-9/10. Now TM describes her pain as pulsation, located in her lateral and back of her knee. TM denies previous injury to the left knee. TM denies numbness, tingling, or loss of movement in her left leg.
The initial goal is to reduce the surrounding inflammation, applying ice is very important to reduce inflammation. Foot orthotics can reduce the strain in the plantar fascia during static loading, minimize the collapse of the medial longitudinal arch, and reduce pronation. The usage of orthotics and heel pads is to achieve maximum comfort and proper alignment of the foot. A night splint keeps the patients ankle in a neutral position overnight, while passively stretching the calf and plantar fascia during sleep. This may allow the plantar fascia to heal. A corticosteroid injection may be use if conservative treatments fail. Steroid injections can be repeated, but patient should be warned of complications such as plantar fascia rupture (Porter and Shadbolt, 2005). Physical therapy treatments such as ultrasound therapy, and laser therapy are used in treating and heeling plantar fascia. A combination of non- operative treatment modalities may have up to 90 per cent success rate in treating plantar fasciitis with a year (Singh, 1997 and Davis,
When you sustain a sports injury, inflammation begins almost immediately. It is the body’s attempt to eliminate harm and to begin the healing process. The body is trying to dispose of the dead tissue and trying to promote the renewal of new, healthy tissue.
These treatment methods vary depending on the location on the body and cause of the issue. In most cases, chiropractic treatment is a more simple, more efficient way to remedy an injury, rather than costly physical therapy or the work of a general practitioner. Length of treatment and recurrence of the treatment varies depending on the designated injury, however Hoving et al from Annals Of Internal Medicine released this study in
The ultrasound field is a very physically involved field, from having to help move a patient into the proper position for scanning, having to hold awkward positions to work around a patient that is unable to move, and scanning itself is physical. The physicality of scanning is often the reason why the ultrasound field is commonly plagued with many musculoskeletal disorders. The diagnostic medical sonography field has a prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries of 81 percent. For this reason it is important to know the proper technique and exercises that can be done to help prevents musculoskeletal injuries. My goal in this paper is to bring understanding to what musculoskeletal disorders are and what can be
* Heat and Cold Therapy has been used for centuries to manage soft tissue and joint injuries while relieving pain.
I had previously heard that Arnica, a herb, helps to reduce inflammation and swelling when applied directly to the affected area. PROcure comes in a non-greasy, fast absorbing gel form and helps to fade away discoloration and also dramatically helps to improve the appearance of spider veins on your feet and ankles. It has a gentle "no-touch" applicator so applying is a breeze. I don't have to touch it and was amazed at how easy it seems to absorb into my skin. My bruise hasn't completely gone away but I can surely see a
If sutures are necessary, your health care provider will use absorbable sutures that dissolve as your body heals. You may also receive antibiotic medicines or a tetanus shot.
RICE stands for rest, ice, compression, elevation. The rest means to take some time off from the sport. Always rest the injured body part for 1 to 2 days after the injury occurs. If the injury is serious, a healthcare provider will decide how much rest is right. The I in RICE stands for ice. “Ice helps control swelling and inflammation around the injured area. Ice should be put on an injury as soon as possible. Putting ice on early usually helps the injury heal faster.” Ice should never be put directly on the injury. Wrap the ice in a paper towel or a towel. A cold bag of vegetables or even a cold water bottle will work. Compression is meant to help limit the swelling, it also provides extra support to the injury. Using trainer’s tape, elastic bandage, or even a cloth will work. But make sure whatever is used is not wrapped too tightly. Elevation is another way to decrease swelling, but with the help of gravity. Try to keep the injured part above the heart. This helps the blood go back to the heart which helps stops swelling. If the injured part of the body can not get above the heart, keep it parallel to the ground. RICE should be used during the first 24 to 48 hours of an injury. In addition, physical therapy can help a gymnast or athlete recover from an injury and avoid future injury. “A physical therapist can help reduce pain
While waiting for help to arrive, you can take some actions to prevent any further injury from occurring. The first step is to stop any bleeding. Next, immobilize the injured area by applying a splint, but do not try to push the bone back in place, because that will cause further injury. Apply ice packs to relieve swelling and pain, but you should wrap the ice pack in a towel.
The nerves are raging, mainly in his stomach as the butterflies flutter till no end. "Is everything ok? Will everything go as planned?" He couldn't stop thinking about what might happen. Images were racing wild as he thought about his teammates going to battle without him. He couldn't comprehend why he had to let them handle it on their own. He has played with them since they were in eighth grade, and when they need him the most, all he can do is sit and cheer. He hates this feeling of helplessness, but at the same time he knows he has to do what little he can do, well.
The injured skin can be washed by vinegar. It cleans the injuries and prevents the microbes’ growth.
