Social media has been a blessing and a curse put upon our society. From being a place where people from all over can meet and share ideas to being a breading ground for bullies and predators. Social media is a vast concept that encompasses multiple pros and cons; however, the question at hand is what does it do for ethical leadership. Ethical leadership can be described as leadership that is driven by ethical beliefs and values. I believe social media has the ability to hinder and help ethical leadership in the following aspects: providing connectivity, giving access to anonymity, and globalizing voices and the freedom of speech. Social media provides a way for everyone to connect to each other and everything else around us from the comfort of our homes. This is an aspect of social media that helps ethical leadership because it gives the natural leaders of the world to connect and share their ideals with a grander audience. People have the ability to share and repost the thoughts of others and when these thoughts are positive and beneficial more people can be affected. Similarly to the pervious points the effect this aspect of social media has on ethical leadership is determined by how people use this aspect. If used in a positive manner, ethical leadership can be helped. For instance, this gives people the ability to safely share whatever beliefs the have without having to worry about physical backlash that can turn into dangerous situations. Depending on what ideas you share, it is possible for people to voice their disagree but it wont lead to confrontation like real life situations can.
