The aspects of self-care I considered when constructing my plan for the upcoming semester were intended to be comprehensive. Creating a plan with a focus on areas of my total wellbeing it will be easier to measure goals, determine corrective measures, and rewards.
Elizabeth Vernet (as cited in Shallcross, 2011) stated “It is important for counsellors to understand that there are risk factors inherent in the work and that noticing signs of stress or distress is a sign of health, not impairment, none of us is immune to the work.” Empathy is an essential part of counselling and in order to be empathetic we need a connection to our own wellbeing.
Self-care for the body
It has become clear in just the first two weeks of returning to school that a need for physical self-care is going to be very important

I would like to return to the habit of checking in with my chakras and using reiki when I feel out of balance. These practices are things that have served me well throughout my life. I have become busy and stopped doing these things even though they take little time and really do make me feel better.
The challenge to this practice is that I tend to forget about it. I get busy or I am too tired, basically I make excuses. I can overcome these challenges by creating a reminder. I have used affirmations on the mirror to remind me to take time for myself to meditate and do reki.
I can reward this practice by downloading new meditation music after consistent practice. I can also take other classes to learn new spiritual modalities to expand my knowledge as a reward.
Summary

It took me a while to realize this was true and learn what self-care is for me. Personally, an important aspect of self-care is getting enough sleep at night, because I have difficulty functioning on little sleep. Exercise is also a great way for me to release stress, tension, and improve my mood. I plan to continue to make time to exercise most days a week as a professional. As a social worker, I know that having a support system is vital for our clients, and it is also invaluable for me as well. I have a few people in my life that I can vent to when I’ve experienced a stressful day and talking out my difficulties is very

The counselling process is one that may last for as little as one session or for years, it is within the middles stages of the helping relationship that particular counselling skills such as a focusing, challenging and immediacy can be implemented, as well as use of advanced empathy that can be applied due to increased familiarity with a speaker. Many actions may occur within middles stage of the helping relationship such as transitions that occur for a multitude of reasons and the outcome of which can vary based on the attitude of the speaker. Self-awareness remains vital throughout the entire counselling relationship due to the continual influence of empathy in the helping relationship and remaining aware my own motives and values when using advanced empathy and specific counselling skills. Ethics and boundaries are also involved within the counselling process as within a counselling relationship, I as the counsellor, must be careful with the balance or expenditure of power when challenging.
... properly interact and communicate well with their clients, they need to be emotionally intelligent, self aware, create a therapeutic relationship and develop reflective practices. All of the above contributes to an individual’s health and so it’s very important that we are able to control our emotions, correct and learn from our mistakes, examine and balance our life and create a therapeutic environment so that our clients feel comfortable, safe and trust us enough to live their life in our hands.
I chose to do a concept analysis on ‘Self-Care.’ The nursing theory that uses this concept is Orem’s theory of nursing. This theory is a grand theory and consists of three minor interrelated theories; self-care, self-care deficit, and nursing systems. (Parker & Smith 2010). Orem defines self-care as when an individual initiates activities and performs to maintain life, health and well-being on their own and self-care deficit as not meeting adequate self-care requisites which include “limitations for knowing, deciding and producing care to self or dependent. (Parker & Smith, 2010)

The counselor’s objective is to identify the problem of the client and plan out the method of helping the client overcome the problem. The most rewarding part of being a counselor is the ability to make a difference in people’s lives. In private practice, there is a constant push to become more skilled at helping so that clients will refer others to you for help. It is also important to follow up with the client about their well-being even after treatment has ended to ensure that they are still living a healthy and stress-free life. The client must make time for all scheduled sessions with the counselor for best results of treatment. If we don’t express our feelings during counseling sessions, the hurt and frustration behind the situation will build up, and once the client releases, it may trigger other situations and bring on severe mental health

At the beginning of my mindfulness journey, I felt frustrated as I began to realize how much I struggled with being in the present. I could not focus and I struggled to make it five minutes of practice. In the first two weeks, mindfulness felt like a chore. As I sat down to practice I would feel defeated each time. I did not really understand the point of mindfulness as focusing on breathing felt meaningless to me. My mind would wander each time I tried to focus on breathing and I began to realize how hard it was to still and control my mind. I knew that I was supposed to feel more relaxed and connected with my mind and body, but after each practice I felt more frustrated with myself. In the beginning I began to realize
It is well known and proven that over time the benefits of meditating on a regular basis promotes the development of inner calmness, connectedness, focus, flow, a clear clarity of mind, a focused and more stable grounded concentration, along with coherency of thought, increased creativity, being more open and receptive to receive insights, solutions to problems and new ideas, a balanced and harmonious centred inner equilibrium, a relaxed happy body, mind and spirit, which in turn assists as a preventative tool that creates and maintains positive overall vibrant health and wellbeing.
Self-care is a necessary practice in everyone’s life. This practice allows people to relax and replenished themselves. The first time I heard of this term was in during one of my social work classes. As we began to discuss self-care it became clear, that without proper self-care people, not just social workers are doing themselves a disservice. Self-care encompasses more than general rest. Self-care deals with emotional wellbeing, good health and spiritual wellbeing. All of these areas are key to having good self-care. The reading provides a good description self-care, it stated that self-care is achieving an equilibrium across our personal school and work lives. Achieving equilibrium in my personal life will only increase my ability to support and help others.
