There is 420,000 registered NCAA student athletes in the United States that are receiving helpful benefits as a result of school sports. Multiple people will argue that school sports are not beneficial to students even though school sports are very helpful, and here are three reasons why school sports are helpful: school sports develop good citizens, school sports make long-lasting friendships, and school sports lead to better educational ties.
The best examples of impactful citizens are athletes who devote their time to helping others and being a leader, and they develop these helpful skills as student athletes, which is why school sports develop good citizens, and this is because athletes and coaches of school sports are role models for many children and when they do acts of kindness, that shows younger children how to act, then young children will develop into good citizens based on their school sport role models. Also according to the National Federation of State High School Activity Associations, school

Along with that, coaches force the idea of respect on to students, so when they are grown men, so students will be respectful towards other citizens. Along with constructing students into respectful citizens, they also need to learn to work with others. Another great skill to have as an impactful citizen is collaboration, and it starts with sports, because your sport teams' collaboration will greatly affect your winning, your confidence, and your
Athletics in American schools have always been controversial for many reasons. Some of these reasons include health concerns, safety precautions, and academic significance. Daniel H. Bowen and Colin Hitt wrote an article titled, “High-School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics” to present the factors of positive correlation between success in athletics and academics. I believe that athletics in high schools not only benefit students socially, but also academically.
First of all high school sports are not beneficial because it puts too much stress on the kids because they want to make their parents happy and want to keep their grades up or if they don’t they could get cut from the team . The pressure from the parents is sometimes too much. According to KCRA.com this statement is important because it highlights that they have to worry about not getting dropped from the team because they have to make sure grades are staying up and then they have to worry about their practice and being a valuable player on the team. According to helpguide.org this could lead to, a lot of stress and that could be bad for the student because they might get health
Youth sports can be a learning experience or it can be a health risk to the athletes. Youth sports can teach young children the value of hard work and discipline or it can be emotionally and physically damaging. Three main points are how sports keep you healthy, how they build character, and the values that they will learn from sports and how they will use in the future. These three ideas prove that youth sports can be healthy, they build character, and can teach them the value of hard work and discipline for your kid.
There are many careers that I could have choosen for when I get older, but I picked a good and amazing job that fits me perfectly. With this career, I have already started to gain experience and have enjoyed spending time with many people that enjoy doing the same thing as I do! This amazing career is coaching field hockey. I have played this sport since I was in fourth grade and am going to continue to play. I have attended many clinics with many different coaches, which is a good thing. By doing this I have learned many new and different skills. I am interested in this career because I will get to spend time with kids and have fun. Also, I will be spending time doing something I enjoy and be happy that I am teaching kids. This is why I think that being a field hockey coach would be a perfect job for me.
eenagers take sports very seriously. Some want to take a certain sport through high school, college, and even the pros. During the 2010-2011 school year, more than 7.6 million participated in a school sport, which is a 40,000 student increase since the 2009-2010 school year.+ Schools should continue to support sports because it can boost one's social skills, benefit the future, and keep them healthy. Sports can make it easier for one to make friends whether they are shy or not. Usually, when a student participates in sports, they are put on a team.
Participation in sports has proven to increase self-discipline and self-esteem, and can teach athletes to learn from their mistakes and move on (Issitt). Athletes playing team sports also develop the ability to work well with others and use teamwork in their everyday lives. Teammates form relationships that are strengthened over a common passion and goal. These relationships can last long after high school is over (Chen). These social skills translate into better communication used with an athlete’s family, peers, and in the community. Likewise, “A 2006 study in Maryland found that student athletes are 15 percent more likely than non athletes to be involved in their communities and to take the time for civic engagements, including participating in voting and volunteer activities” (Issitt). The same study also concluded that athletes are far more likely to be comfortable with public speaking than non-athletes. This study provides concrete evidence that high school sports can help to gain mental and social skills that will be used later in life
Furthermore, sports create an opportunity to grow the community together and become excited for the school's teams. Sports certainly enhance school spirit, and extracurriculars allow the school to get involved in different activities and
Athletics, for a majority of the student population, provides a very meaningful experience in education. People that participate in athletics will have better self-esteem, social confidence, and more academic achievement. Participating in an athletic program will help the student contribute to the school community, which will help them identify with school values. One factor that may be overlooked in the participation of sports is that it helps students have better physical health. Students who participate in sports learn to respect their health and they will try to stay healthier than students who have never participated in a sport. There are so many numerous reasons to get involved in athletics in the school setting, but there arise
Many would disagree with me and say that high school sports actually have more benefits than negativities for a student. For example a student in sports would be more active which would make them fitter and healthier. A student that in a team sport would make more friends which would improve their social skills and increase their
Sports like golf and baseball especially at the professional level are said to be more like games of the mind rather than talent, in many cases athletes who seem very evenly matched are challenged by mental factors. Sports psychologist study human behavior to understand motor skill performance, with this information applied sports psychologist can give athletes a competitive advantage to achieve their physical and mental potential. In Tartakovsky’s (2016) article reviewing the history of sports psychology, in the late 19th century early 20th century psychologist like Norman Triplett did studies related to cycling testing the times of cyclists competing against others versus when they cycled alone (Tartakovsky, M.,2016). He found that the
One key focus of a team sport in today’s society is to learn life lessons while having fun. Sports help the child succeed by creating a strong work ethic through the implementation of life lessons along with conditioning. Coach Miller, my head football coach at Central DeWitt High School in Iowa, taught me many life lessons throughout the course of the football season. Whether it was joining the nursery home in a game of bingo, or helping the school complete a landscaping project, Miller knew how to incorporate community service into the lives of many on the football team. The team may have had a 0.125 win percentage but winning was not the lesson Miller wanted to teach.
Participating in team sports or any sports help one maintains a healthy body which contributes to good character. Participating in sports provides consistent exercise. When one’s body is healthy and in shape it helps boost the confidence of the person and it produces a positive outcome for the team. According to a 2005 study at D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York, A teen who participates in sports in high school reduces her risk of taking illegal drugs. This improves the body to be healthy which will build character. If one athlete sees another person doing drugs the athlete will be able to help the other teenagers with why they should do the drugs with following the principals of good character. The exercise is great for the body and can promote healthy lifestyles. Being healthy physically will build one’s character and will make them strong and know how to push through the tough
There has been a lot of controversy over whether sports help or hinder students, and many questions have been posed as to if they have negative or positive effects on school and if they are worth the time and money spent. Although many experts and researchers say that no good can come from it, playing competitive sports has many more advantages than disadvantages.
Organized sports help keep teens out of trouble, give them an opportunity to meet positive influences, provide an opportunity to develop a higher self-esteem, and enables students to set goals. Staying with sports through school helps teens stay on the right track. Students should be interested in their sport and enjoy participating and always should try to have fun!
First, sports can help students become punctual and discipline people. For example, when students are doing sport like playing football, punctuality is important because it is not good to let other players wait for you. When you arrive on time, it also shows that you are a disciplined person. A punctual and disciplined student will give people a good impression and easily get the trust from others. This is important for the future. Besides, John Wooden stated that characters make who you are but reputation only make people think about you, so you should be more concerned on your character rather than your reputation. He also said that you may get to the top through your ability, but to keep you there, character is needed (Wooden & Jamison, 1997). This shows that having a good character is important in life. Second, doing sports can help students know about teamwork. For instance, when students are doing sports which need other team members, they will learn how to cooperate with each other. From that, they will know how to apply teamwork in daily life such as group assignment, group project, and others. Finally, sports will help to develop the
