Extracurriculars: An Analysis of Sports and Academics
Most students in a high school setting are likely to say that sports and academics are the most important aspects in the school. A variety of students participate in sports throughout the school year. In fact, some students are physically active year-round playing up to three or four sports. How would a two to three hour practice every night throughout the year affect a student's education? Components of sports with learning can hinder a student's education such as making sports a greater priority and grades not as important; however, sports can teach students important skills while in school. With this in mind, sports can affect students in multiple ways.

Components such as: time management, leadership skills, and factors including responsibility and teamwork are a few things that students learn from playing and being enhanced in a sport. When a child is involved in a sport, the time is fairly consuming, and students have to learn how to manage homework, sport practices, and games. The players will continue to learn important life abilities and skills such as: responsibility for the team, committing to practices, and the player attempting sufficiently for his or her sport. For this reason, students learn how to become part of a team and learn teamwork skills. Being involved in a team lets students bond and create their own family. Furthermore, sports create an opportunity to grow the community together and become excited for the school's teams.
