There are many important elements that are critical to creating a well-written paper. It is important for all writers to have a good understanding of these key learning goals. By the end of English Composition I at The University of Akron, all students should learn to the best of their ability, how to use these goals when writing. The drafting process, good paper structure, audience, constructing a thesis, using outside materials, analyzing, and using proper grammar are the goals that I developed in my writings throughout the semester. Most of these goals I believe I improved on tremendously, other goals I think I could use more practice. These writing elements are all very helpful in a writer’s process of creating a good paper.

I often struggled with analysis throughout high school. I describe myself as a realist, I see things as they are and find it difficult to look past the surface to find a different meaning. Although I am in need of much improvement, I found that my essay on Robin Hood helped improve my analyzation skills. Throughout the paper, I had to analyze why Robin Hood’s reputation has changed over the years in relation to society changing over time as well. Being able to apply this to a writing enhances what is trying to be said and makes the writing flow. Without the use of proper etiquette, the paper can become confusing and hard to read. It is important to not use contractions or pronouns in formal writings. I sometimes forget about these rules and find it hard to write without them. On page two and three of Social Media and Depression, there was a few instances where I had to work hard to exclude pronouns from my paper, but I was able to fix it in my final draft. Using proper academic documentation, such as MLA format, is also important to writing a good paper. I find that I create works cited pages with ease and I have learned how to improve incorporations of in-text citations throughout the semester, as shown on page one of my paper on Robin Hood. It is important to use outside materials in writing, but it is also key to cite them
