Nursing is a career that will never stop growing according to the U S Bureau Labor Statistics. Many people plan on going to college and becoming a registered nurse specializing in pediatrics. A lot of people have a heart for helping people and absolutely love kids. That's why I think this will be a great job for me. The largest group of nurses is hospital nurses. They are assigned to one department and work there, for example, maternity, surgery, and pediatrics. To be a successful Nurse, they need to be compassionate, kind, gentle, and caring. Who wants a nurse who has no compassion? I know I sure don't. Most nurses have a heart to help people and make them better. They need to be emotionally stable to be a nurse. Things aren't always going to be happy and they need to be prepared for that. There are 3 paths students can take to become a nurse they are, a bachelor's of science degree in nursing, associate degree in nursing, and a diploma. The BSN program is offered by colleges and universities. It takes about 4 years to complete, sometimes 5. The working conditions are normally comfortable and in a good environment. Nurses may spend a lot of time walking and standing. You take two years of your start up classes with two years of just nursing classes. A lot of hospitals require experience, like an internship for a year. After you go to a four year school and get your BSN there are many fields of specialties you can study ("Requirements to Be a Nurse in the U.S."). Some can include rehabilitation nursing, cardiovascular nursing, and my favorite, pediatric nursing ("Explore Specialties."). Pediatric nursing would be something I would highly consider for many reasons. I have nannied my whole life and am very good with kids. You need to have a lot of patientions with some playfulness when dealing with kids. They get scared and need someone to tell them that everything is going to be ok. Nurses are well respected because they are in a skilled profession and work to remain accident free. Even though nurses are well respected there are stereotyped every day and many people have biased opinions about them. Some of which include being stereotyped as all being women, a profession many call men gay for being involved in, always working in a hospital, will always marry someone that is the medical field, all nurses wear white hospital gowns and a cap, that nursing is easy, are reject doctors, they are all the same, and they do not make a lot of money.

RNs require clinical skills, bedsides manners, and are able to multi-task. They also have to be very clean and safe at all times within their environment. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialists when necessary. Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is vital that a nurse understands that to be a nurse, you need a certain personality and understanding of the field.
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is the job I have chosen to work towards becoming in the future. This job gives me the chance to help people, which was one of my biggest goals for picking what job that I would obtain after college. While being a pediatric nurse practitioner I will get to take care of children, learn more about science and medicine use the skills that I have learned, and get to have the satisfaction that I helped someone every day. The career I am deeply interested in is Registered Nursing. This career interests me because I like to help people. I know that this career is very demanding, but it can also be very rewarding as well. I think I poses some of the most important qualities that are needed in order to work in this career field. Since I was in elementary school, a career path in the medical field always caught my eye. I would want to pursue a career as a nurse because I want a job that is inspiring, challenging, and rewarding; I want to be able to make a difference in people’s lives every day. My mother is a registered nurse and just from the way she talks about her patients, I can see how much gratification and fulfillment she feels from her job. From a young age, I have always wanted a job that would leave a lasting impression on others. After some research, volunteering, and years of thought in what career interests me the most in the medical field, I feel certain that nursing is a profession that will fit me well.

My whole college education has been planned since high school partly because I was taking college classes but mainly because I prefer to be organized and have everything done. Every year I worked harder and harder to get to where I am at and it was not easy but I can say that it is not impossible. Whenever I felt down I would think about my parents and how far they have come and I gained strength to pick myself up. For them, me, and students out there trying to accomplish their goals in a world full of obstacles. Nursing has been my career goal for the longest time because it is a career I see myself fully invested in due to my father’s cancer. My father is my number one fan and when he was diagnosed a few years ago, it only fueled my strength to continue with my desired career. Today he is in remission and living a healthy life with us inspiring me to begin a new chapter in my life. Both he and my mom are very proud of where I am at in my live and I want to continue making them proud.
