Throughout this class experience, we have focused on many topics, and subtopics, that address ways to better yourself as a professional. Many of these topics are so incredibly informative and important to bettering yourself as a person and a manager as well. There is a handful of which I see as the most important for myself, either for me to actively use more often or to begin to use. Here I will be addressing what these topics are, how it applies to me, evaluate how it affected my PSATs, address my plans for future improvement, and finally evaluate my performance overall. Firstly, I want to talk about Chapter 1.1: Knowing Oneself Truly which to me was the most important chapter. This chapter starts off the entire textbook and sets the tone for the rest of the text. It covers what as a good manager people need to understand who they and how they function as a person. Not every person is the same and a good manager knows how to use their best traits and work for their lacking ones. Truly knowing who you also allows for self-growth and improvement which allows for continual growth as an individual. Also knowing who you are means you are accepting to criticism and take it to improve yourself. Knowing who you are is …show more content…
A key chapter I feel like everyone should review is Chapter 5.4: Matching Media to Messages. It discusses the different channels of communication and how to properly connecting the correct form of media to best explain a message. It talks about how not everything needs the richests media explanation and how simple messages are often over explained in complex mediums, or vise versa. This can often take away from the message and causes confusion as a result. I have had managers call me in to explain a simple message that could have been emailed or they emailed me a complex message that I then have to find them and have it
In many ways developing a personal improvement plan can help prevent complacency, generate personal growth, and build self-confidence. The basic premise is based on the determination of specific goals, and developing strategies to achieve them. As a forty-seven year old college student, I’ve had my share of implementing improvement plans. Some bore excellent results, while others produced stress and anxiety. Cultivating improvement requires an awareness of your particular strengths and weaknesses, also diligence to work on those areas. In the past, I had a tendency to become depressed, or discouraged when I failed to reach a goal. I am a thinker by nature and apt to experience analysis paralysis, a state in which I become so caught up in planning that I cannot take action. The areas I struggle with the most are, stress management, time management, and finding an optimal learning method in class. It is my plan to overcome these challenges and attain a more empowering perspective, refine my university experience, and ensure that I successfully integrate personal and academic development effectively, in a way most beneficial to my future.
But reading this book made me realize that it does not take a lot to be a successful leader. If you care about people and are a genuine person most of the steps the book describes should not be hard. In a work environment everyone wants to be successful and as a leader you should be able to recognize that in order for you yourself to be successful you should encourage other people to see what you want is best for them with out making it all about yourself. When it comes to leadership people should take responsibility and take control of what they want. The goal is not to manipulate people but to convince them in different ways to understand what is better for them and for you. As for every day social life no one likes a mean person so why wouldn’t anyone want to be genuine if it helps with meeting new people and influencing people to get what you want. Like I said earlier in the summary if you don’t pay attention to what someone else has to say when they first meet you they will not be interested in what you have to say either. It is so simple when learning someone’s name to say their name back to him or her when saying hi nice to meet you. People love to hear their name and people love to talk about them selves, so as
Part one is included the fundamentals and provides the context for people to know what they need to do to become better leaders. In part two, authors discuss the necessary elements of the first fundamental, Believe you can which is about how important it is for leaders to believe in their capacities and have a mindset that leadership can be learned. Chapter three is about second fundamentals, Aspire to excel, which talks about the importance of knowing what is important for leaders and who they are. Chapter four discusses the third fundamental, Challenge yourself which is about how the challenge is critical to learning. Chapter five expresses the fourth fundamental, Engage support, and it points out that leaders who achieve excellence get support along the way. The fifth fundamental, practice deliberately, is the focus of chapter six which it mentions that leaders need to spend time practicing the essential skills for becoming a great leader. In the last chapter, authors summarize the key messages of the book, and they offer leaders to have the commitment to learning (Kouzes & Posner, 2016,

While working for the Business Department of WCHS and helping with the yearbook, I have been able to see what pros and cons I have in my work ethic and ability. Throughout the past couple of weeks, I have seen my strengths and weaknesses while being an employee. I have learned how I could work on them, and how I can continue benefitting others with them. There are some areas in my work department which I find easy and fun, however there are others which I find tedious and more difficult. I know that throughout Work Based Learning I will become a better employee and person in general.
I spoke earlier about creating a method in order to improve the workplace for employees in order to increase the success of an organization; this is a project that requires a lot of attention to detail and plenty of consistency. Being an individual with great recognition of detail and efficiency is something that this program needs because that is what the field of Human Resource Management and Development is all about. We need individuals in this field who pay attention to the details that others may miss out on, and individuals who are not afraid to keep going after a couple of failed attempts. If you are wondering why, it is simple because these are the people who at the end of the day to make a greater difference. Simply put, I know this because I have experienced it throughout my undergraduate career at Binghamton University, through my leadership role on campus by organizing forum, banquets and on campus events and it is something I hope to bring to the Human Resource Management and Development program here at
I personally found this book to be an excellent read, and while I haven’t read to many business management books. I can feel safe to say that I think this one does an excellent job in conveying key management principals for today’s workplace. It also appealed to me due to my fascination with the way in which our military operates. I believe he did a great job of staying clear of getting too detailed in either is leadership model and military jargon. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels intimidated by management books that read more like a textbook, who want to learn but also enjoy the reading too.
To diagnose my learning needs I must be honest and realistic about myself. The strengths I have as a leader consists of personal mastery and building a shared vision. Personal mastery is the discipline of continually clarifying and deepening our personal vision, of focusing our energies, of developing patience, and of seeing reality objectively (Senge, 2006). I have always strived to improve myself so that I can excel in every task that I set out to do. There ...
This enhances the fact that the leaders need to upgrade themselves as per the requirements of the organizations. As the business environment in the present time is much volatile in context, the leaders may have to face difficult situations at many times. This will lead to the betterment of their skill improvements. The self-awareness is one of the most important but least focused competencies for leadership (Thorn, 2012). Self-awareness is the process by which the leaders learn in what conditions they are good at managing and which things they have to still learn. It is always better for the future leaders and managers to go through certain self-assessment programs because if they don’t, the other people in the workplace will surely be able to see those weaknesses. There are some interpersonal activities that the future leaders must undertake to improve their activities. If the leaders do not indulge in such matters, their leadership skills may degrade and it might lead the organization to an utter failure (Ebrahimi Mehrabani & Azmi Mohamad, 2015). On the contrary, if the organizational leaders undertake the responsibilities to identify their faults and strengthen them, the result will automatically be on the positive side. The organization will get many added benefits for
I believe you learn about leadership by acting as an example. You should be prepared to do the things you are asking others to do by getting on your hands and knees, if need be, and get your hands dirty. This engraves a picture into the mind of an employee or subordinate to what type of a manager you are. In this paper, I covered the roles a manager plays in an organization describing the four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. I described three traits: conceptual, human, and technical, which an individual must possess to become a successful manager within an organization and how they fit in with the four functions.
In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.
Overall what I learned in this class will help me in my career as a leader and will eventually help further my career. I learn that a leader is one who has a direct relationship with the people they are leading. The leader is one who also gives direction to the staff. They must have motivational and technological skills which is also a good trait to have. Transformational leadership style is the leadership style base on the quiz. I also learned there are a few things that I have to work on to better my leadership styles. With the information given in the book and what I learned in class will help me in the future.
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
I learned what I expected to learn in and additionally learned that being successful through examination of the self and actions that can be used in the future. Being successful in leadership, employees, and teamwork is effective in the organizational structure. It is a must that the creation of trust and obedience is in the strategy that management uses. Focus and use guidance to maintain a productive life in making decision and choices that will provide for your educational adventure. I learned to be adventurous by researching materials which led me to accomplish my MBA degree.
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
