The main objective of the course, leadership III, is to draw our attention to the best way of organizing the economic activity of a good society. This consequently means that, leaders should find a way of balancing the concepts liberty, efficiency, equality and community in the society. Thus, books analysed and presented in the course focused on various authors’ views on how the marketplace should be organized and how the nation should be structured. Techniques used in this course was extensive and this has helped improved upon my writing and thinking capacity skills which I believe would help me in the long run especially in other courses I would take here at Ashesi. Hence, this paper seeks to give a thorough reflection of this course and how it has changed my thinking on how a good society should be organized.
The first presentation done in class was on the book, Leadership and Nation Building by Stephen Adei. What struck me in that book was when the author emphasized that, the crises Africa is facing can be classified under economic, political, social and governmental and these crises are the reasons why Africa is in a stagnation (Adei, 2004). This suggests that, communist support collectivism instead of individualism. Thus, they seek for the welfare of citizens rather than individual’s self-interest. I think this is in accordance with the 2063 aspiration of the African union to build an Africa of good governance, democracy and respect for human rights (African Union, 2015). This has taught me that, political ideologies such as communism are relevant and guides us on how the society should be
