Recommended: Arguments about racial profiling

A critical issue that has swept the nation since the 19th century called racial profiling is the catalyst for many controversial cases and arrests. Racial profiling is a term used throughout America and specifically the justice system. It can be defined as many things, but overall its unjust and occurs every day existing as a controversial topic. While many think it is impossible to solve, most aren’t willing to modify the standard thought. With a more strict training in the justice system it needs to be enforced that racial profiling isn’t adequate to rely on. An analysis of the contentious justice system reveals that the challenge of racial profiling can be solved one person at a time, by a change of perception and ending stereotypes.
Defined by Criminal Justice Today, racial profiling is “Any police initiated action that relies on the race ethnicity, or national origin, rather than the behavior of the individual…” (Schmolleger, 295). With race-based assumptions in the law enforcement system a “lose-lose” situation is created due to America’s diverse democracy and destroys the ability to keep the criminal justice system just and fair.
