He has given permission for cops to feel suspicious if black people go into a white community. It has shown that the law enforcement has violated the state policy over prohibition of racial profiling. This source has demonstrated that people will go so far to keep their job and not even own up to what they did. One of the aspects I have on white cops is even though they know it is wrong to use racial profiling ,because they hide the evidence, they still do it to the extent. It helped me better understand my topic with an example from today and proving that racial profiling does happen in our world and we need to fix it.
Racial profiling has become a significant and controversial issue across the nation nowadays. In general, racial profiling is defined as discriminatory behaviors of law enforcement officers that target people for suspicion in breaking the law solely based on their race or ethnicity in the belief that certain minority groups have a higher chance to engage in unlawful behavior. It is often discussed in the context of traffic stops by local or state police officials. African Americans are the number one targets and victims of this law enforcement strategy. Racial profiling is not only wrong, unfair and discriminatory, but also a form of racism and a violation of the rights of African Americans, therefore law enforcement strategy needs to come to an end.
This is called racial profiling. Although some argue that racial profiling is a necessary tool for law enforcement to protect our safety, it puts some people at a disadvantage while it privileges others. Overall racial profiling is bad for the economy, unconstitutional, and sets borderlines for different races. Bad economic results can occur when racial profiling is accepted and urged to be used. Matthew Rothschild states, “Better to take nonviolent action and press our case with boycott”(3).Rothschild is referring to Arizona’s SB 1070 immigration law that allows local law enforcement the power to ask any suspect for proof of citizenship.
Throughout the years we seen and heard cases about people been innocent and that get followed at a shopping center, get stop just by walking down the street for looking “suspicious” and for their physical appearances. It’s not a great thing to do, but let’s face it we have done at some point. This type of circumstances have harm ethnic minorities. The main races that are target are Hispanics and Latinos, Arab and Muslims, African American, but they each have a category for why they been stop, follow and harass. First Hispanics and Latinos are been profile because some of them might be illegal.
There are many types of racism in America that cause people to make accusations against law enforcement for discrimination. One type of racism is racial profiling. It is a strategy that encourages police officers to stop and question minorities only because of their race. It takes place in a variety of routine police encounters. Unmotivated searches occur everyday among the minority groups.
Racial profiling happens when people consider your skin color to convict anyone of committing the crime. There has been large number of cases that proves racial discrimination in the justice system is un-American and unproductive. Not only is racial profiling/discrimination occurring in the justice system but also in the airport, traffic stops, schools, even public stores. Federal law enforcement agencies are even suspecting distinct ethnic groups of criminal activities based o... ... middle of paper ... ... origin. George Bush, exclaimed “Racial profiling is wrong, and we will end it in America.
Racial Profiling is law enforcement and private security practices that disproportionately target people of color for investigation and enforcement. Racial Profiling occurs across the United States and an overwhelming number of Hispanics and African Americans, including children, are being stopped. Some may say “racial profiling is an ineffective and degrading practice that violates civil rights” while others say that it is “necessary to counter terrorism and reduce crime.” In my opinion, stop and frisk is unfair and against citizens constitutional rights therefore, making it illegal and horrible, but I do believe it’s a tactic taken by police to ensure no crimes are happening and it is also an effective way to counter terrorism. Everyone is created equally and should be treated equally. I believe Police should not stop someone based upon their race unless, suspicious behavior occurs.
Racial profiling; a government activity directed at a suspect or group of suspects, is used by law enforcement officers to reduce violent crimes. Even though racial profiling reduces crime, officers should not engage in it for the reason that it is unconstitutional and a form of discrimination against citizens. Racial profiling typically occurs after a traffic or pedestrian stop, in many cases an officer is accused of singling out a person solely because of his or her race, religious attire, or some other form of outward appearance. People are greatly affected by this type of discrimination, living with the fact that every place they go to there is a possibility that they may be stopped and detained for no probable cause. The fourteenth amendment states in the constitution that all citizens are to be treated equally, any unfair treatment against a citizen is considered unconstitutional and the contrary of the fourteenth amendment.
The U.S. has tried to stop people from coming into the country but some people like immigrants because we only come to work and get an education. Some people think that the United States is becoming a Hispanic nation (Ramos, 187). While racism remains a problem in America, it can be reduced or eliminated through effective laws and by stopping the Latino wave (Ramos, XVII) that has come to the United States. However, they can also stop it by actually accepting immigrants into the country. The U.S. discriminates Latinos without knowing the real reason why immigrants came into this country illegally.
Can you imagine being stopped by the police on your way to an everyday activity, soon to find out that it was all because of the color of your skin? This is called racial profiling, defined as: “a controversial and illegal discriminatory practice in which individuals are targeted for suspicion of crimes based on their ethnicity, race,or religion rather than on evidence-based suspicious behavior”(Racial Profiling). This is a growing problem that can happen to anyone at anytime due to lingering racism and ignorance that still exists today. Racial profiling isn’t fair to anyone. People should be judged on the kind of person they are rather than how they look. Some say that racial profiling is a problem that only African American can relate to ,but
