Will mankind colonize the red planet? Outer space remains a natural wonder; a vast frontier in arms reach. Currently our observable universe spans over ninety five billion light years from end to end. Expanding at 152,112 mph/megaparsec the universe grows, quicker than we can comprehend. A discovery based on deep-field images from the Hubble Space Telescope suggests ten septillion planets lurk in our observable Universe, and that’s only counting planets that are orbiting stars. Mankind has always looked towards the stars and planets; today we can reach them. Humans are confined to earth as of now, but that is all about to change. The red planet also known as Mars represents a landmark achievement in human evolution. Harboring possible …show more content…

As time has gone on methods of transportation, landing and sustaining have improved drastically. In 2007, researchers determined the four most effective landing systems. At the time they were breakthroughs. Further observations of the planet have pointed towards a fifth more suitable method. According to Astronomy.com, the past ideas are based on a lighter landing craft. Based on current information, “supersonic retropropulsion technology is required to be able to deliver the “projected 20 metric ton” spacecraft to the surface of Mars” (Nichols). Increased knowledge regarding the landing possibilities push humans towards a realistic plan of arrival on the planet. Ten years ago, landing on the red planet was a feat dared to be tested. Today, due to new information and knowledge humans are capable of landing on the surface. The technology already exists, only needing …show more content…

Elon Musk; the founder of SpaceX has used this passion to make astounding advances towards prolonged space travel/habitation. Will power is one of the, if not the most, powerful tool when facing such a task. Musk recently stated, “For me to be excited and inspired about the future, it’s got to be the first option. It’s got to be: We’re going to be a spacefaring civilization” (Musk). The logistics of undertaking a project such as this is immensely important. However, will power, such as Musk’s is the driving force behind all scientific advancements and discoveries. SpaceX has become an international star regarding to space exploration. Headed by Musk, the corporation has built advanced reusable rockets and countless other mega machines. His passion forms the foundation upon which this company is based. A National Geographic article sites Musk as saying, “It always seemed like we should have gone there by now, and we should have had a base on the moon, and we should have had space hotels and all these things” (Musk). SpaceX and Musk himself stand as a testament to what human will is capable of. Funding space exploration is incredibly expensive, but with the renewed passion SpaceX has been able to flourish, making leaps and bounds of progress in a few short years. Humans with this mindset are a primary reason as to why mankind will inhabit Mars. The red planet is almost
