As a child in the past, I was gullible enough to believe that discrimination had reached an end in our society and even in the very place we work at to make an income. Many people assume that discrimination in the workplace has been a subject of the past. However, according to Fortune magazine, discrimination in the job market is currently an ongoing issue in today’s multicultural society. Racial bias still exists in employment among minorities and people of color and Fortune magazine claims that companies aim to reach out to customers with employees that tend to reflect and represent their customers. I believe that there is a disadvantage towards people of color and minority groups that try to achieve similar standards of employment due to the racial bias and discrimination in the job market according to Fortune magazine. Class division is still common throughout our diverse population of people and certain ethnicities are not given the same advantages as other higher class Americans are provided with. This occurs even though we have progressed as a society to integrate people of color and minority groups in the work force. Not only is racial profiling an issue that exists in the job market but discrimination towards women and the wage gap between men and women is a controversial issue that is in place in today’s society. Certain companies may inhibit women from working at jobs where men are the primary customers and buyers in order to have a customer service team that represents their consumers.
