Whether it be inserting too many exclamation points or not getting to the point fast enough, we are all guilty of personal writing errors. It is important to take part in the simple task of reviewing past assignments and work to reflect on one’s mistakes to improve from them. After all, the first thing to do in order to better yourself is to reflect on past habits and behaviors. It is from self-reflection that I can learn to make changes to help me become a better writer.
After reviewing my various assignments, I found that the most common errors marks were in regards to article errors. By “article errors” the computer flagged any points in the sentence where it seemed were missing an article in front of a subject. In most cases, the computer …show more content…

For instance, I spelled “judgment” as “judgement,” and I continuously switched back and forth between the different spellings. I did not notice the difference, for it seemed to be minor; however, with the varying spelling, the consistency shown throughout my work was affected and thrown off. Additionally, I made the error of combining two words and creating my own word multiple times in my assignments. The computer flagged my single word creations as spelling errors, but this pointed out to me the importance of double checking because I can never be too confident in my work and my words. Last, I failed to capitalize brand name items. I now the importance in doing so, so I know the consequences if I continue to neglect brand name capitalization. Usage of inappropriate words and language and slang references happened to do just that. For example, whenever I used my creative freedom and included a curse word such as “shit” or “damn,” the computer flags the word all together. The comment mentions that such language negatively impacts the impact and strength of the author’s tone. For the tone gives purpose, personality, and character to a person’s work, it is important to ensure that such a vital element of one’s work is able to be acknowledged and effective. I understand now that even if it is fun and different to experiment with slang words or curse words in my writing, such experimenting affects the effectiveness and seriousness of my work.
