Everybody in high school looks forward to graduation day. I was looking forward to graduation myself, but I had a higher goal in mind. I wanted to be in the top 20% of my graduating class. At the beginning I didn’t know how I was going to get there, but I knew that no goal was ever too hard for me to accomplish. Failure wasn’t an option, so I kept my mind set on the bigger picture. Hard work, dedication, and wise decision making helped me to accomplish my graduation goal. Some were good some were bad, but I couldn’t let my bad decision outweigh my good ones. I was in four year college prep class called AVID. (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Avid was a class that helped me in many skills, but decision making was one topic that stood with me. My teacher gave us many choices that we had to pick which one would benefit us in the long run. Taking this class made me realize that doing my homework was more important that going out on a school night. Nobody could do my work for me, so I knew if I wanted to make good grades I had to put some things on the back burner that wasn’t as important. Ranked number thirty nine out of three hundred students was one of my biggest high school accomplishments. I was a Cum Laude graduate, and my name was one of the first ones called. I could have easily taking the easy way out and just graduated, but I wanted to be more than just a number. I wanted to look back over my high school years and say that I gave 100% the whole way through. Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
Walking into Walnut Hills High School right now would have anyone thinking the just walked into the middle of a tornado. Everyone you look there are students running in and out of doors, in and out of cars, and most certainly either turning in missing assignments or retaking tests. There is only one way for you to explain all this ciaos, Senior Year, the year that all teens await with so much excitement and ambition and the year that every single hour long study dates pays off. For the class of 2021 this isn’t just their final year at Walnut Hills this is the year that friends separate and head off to their different university to follow their dreams.

Even though, on my graduation day I should have been more exciting now I can see why it was the most important day of my life because on that day I should have said YES!! Made it this far. Graduating high school was my minor goal and was accomplished. The fact that my minor goal was accomplished made me realize that anything is possible. That day when I realized what graduation should have meant to me made me a better and setting high standards for myself.
Many students are struggling in college. According to the New York Times Web site, only 33 percent of the college students are graduating in six years. Obviously students still need much help to succeed in order to get where they want to go. Although college can be challenging, I am going to succeed by using advice from experts, by developing strategies and ideas, and by taking advantage of the benefits offered by my college.
Gifts, people, pets, memories and actions are some of the countless things people remember in their high and low points in life. From time to time, I dwell on the things that impacted my life, and the most meaningful one of which was attaining my high school diploma. To begin with, I was not fond of school when I reached high school. Then, I made a decision to join the Armed Forces and did not know I needed a high school diploma to join. Eventually, I ended up with a high school diploma and an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, that I now find extremely helpful, as I am in college. Given these points, I can say that I am extremely proud of myself and I am looking forward to accomplish much more in the near future.
High school graduation is a milestone in our lives where we are able to celebrate the end of a journey, our new found freedom, and our first step into the “real world”, also known as adulthood. It is a night full of reminiscing on the memories we made with the classmates who have been by our sides since kindergarten, the classmates that we may not ever see again. It is a night with mixed emotions, teary eyes, smiles of relief, laughter as we think back on all of the memories we shared, talk of the colleges and universities we will be attending, what we will be doing, and the unbelievable realization that we finally did it; we graduated. The best day in my life was when I got promoted from the fourth grade to the sixth grade, or so I thought. I had been held back in fourth grade which meant I did fourth grade twice. So of course I was elated when a new program started the next year that allowed me to skip the fifth grade and go right into my sixth grade year. I rejoined my class and reconnected with my friends. All was right with the work again. The problem with skipping the fourth grade was that although I was socially on target, I was academically behind.
One of my biggest accomplishments thus far in college has been the semester I found balance in doing things I love. I was only taking two classes at my college, but I was also working at the boys and girls club, participating in a club on campus, mentoring two high school girls, and volunteering at my church multiple days a week. I was forced to manage my time and find a balance of taking care of myself while maintaining college, work, and caring for others. To some this may not be a big deal, but to me it was huge. In order to do this, I learned to use my planner every day. I wrote down everything I had to do and every place I needed to be. Using my planner helped me a ton, but it wasn't what ultimately provided me with the balance I needed to handle my busy schedule.
Have you ever been nervous and excited for something at the same time? That is how I felt during my last year of high school leading all the way up to graduation. I had never sat down and figured out what I wanted to do with my life; I would always pick something then switch to something else almost immediately. Graduation day was that epiphany for me that I really had no idea what I was going to do with my life even though I was accepted to LSU and declared a major in Computer Science.
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation is the end of high school, and the beginning to life.
It was one of the most exciting and nerve racking days of our lives. Although we were finally leaving high school, the feeling of being unsure didn’t go away. The whole day was full of practicing for the big moment when the entire class graduated on to a new beginning. All the girls wore shiny bright red robes and the guys were dressed in a shiny navy blue. Standing there, I had no idea what to expect. Some things I were aware of, my friends were leaving and we wouldn’t be the same friends anymore. My role was that of being so aware of the future that I was too shocked to soak in the present; being a pessimist was my main goal and everything I was sure of became true.
Graduation was the most important day in my life. I waited for this amazing day for twelve years to reach my dream and move on to college. For most people, graduation is a memorable day. It is hard for me to forget it even after a hundred years. The day I woke up realizing it was my graduation day, I was smiling all day long knowing that I had made my family proud of me. I remember everything about my graduation day: my party, cake, dress, makeup, hair, cap and gown, and the gifts I got from family and friends.
My senior year of high school…I want to enjoy people’s company, appreciate my family’s presence, and keep a permanent Polaroid of my “home town” etched in my memory. I have a purpose for the year, I know what I want to accomplish for the future, but I have to remember to make the most out of today because there may not always be a tomorrow.
Have you ever been the new kid? Have you ever been a new kid to 6 different high schools? Well even if you have been the new kid at least once you know how it feels. The first day you walk into a school you have never been too. Everyone is staring at you. Inside you are freaking out, wondering if you are going to walk into the wrong class or be late. We all know there is lunch during school and this is a hard time for a new student.
Graduation: the last day that I would unwillingly set foot on the fields of Horizon High School. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest, and tried so hard to keep my feet moving one after the other in order to maintain my perfect stature. After the two hour wait of opening speeches, class songs, and the calling off of the five hundred plus names that were in front of me, it was finally my turn. As my row stood up and we walked towards the stage it had set in at last, this is it, I am done. My high school career ended on that night, but it didn’t close the book that is my life, it only started a new chapter, and with it came a whole slue of uncertainties.
