So far this year, I felt pretty satisfied with my progress this semester. I feel like I am slowly adapting to the new way papers and assignments are handled. All my college work depends solely on me now. No one is going to baby me anymore and whether I succeed or fail depends on how much effort I put into something. For the first time in my life I wrote a paper. Not just a five paragraph essay but actual pages, which is extremely challenging. It’s also been my first time studying for five hours straight so I can pass an actual test. I didn’t know I possessed this level of dedication, it’s probably because it isn’t free.
Learning to read and write is something we all have experienced. Some experiences being difficult than others. As a kid, I can remember trying to read the daily newspapers, different types of magazines, books, and addresses on mail; basically, I tried reading anything that had words on it. My favorite thing to read were the back of cereal boxes. Nothing made me more excited than sitting at my white and pink Barbie table and chair set eating cereal while eyeballing the back of a cereal box. Only being able to correctly read one or two words, it was the first time I really felt accomplished.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say that I am one who enjoys writing as a hobby it definitely doesn’t bore me I just enjoy using my imagination while I read therefore if I am writing it would be on a specific topic or certain subject. I preferred to research my topic in-depth so that I may have a full understanding of what I will be writing about, I will be researching and thinking about both my side and if one exists the opposing sides views or arguments. I will then start to write any and all of my ideas and thoughts down, this is usually just a long free write so I usually use 2-3 sheets of paper during this step writing down anything that I want to say about the topic as well as any reliable sources I can refer to. Once I am completely satisfied with all that I have written down I will transfer it over to my computer where I will continue to add to my writing sample as I go this is where I start to
When it comes to writing I have the hardest time in just getting started. I’m a horrible procrastinator and I overthink about my writing before I have even started a sentence. I worry that I will fail to get my point across or sometimes that I have a point at all. I worry that my writing is just a stream of consciousness on paper and that it will confuse any reader unfortunate enough to stumble across my meandering words.
Writing is a difficult and complex process which requires dedication to master. Even with all the time in the world, no final draft is going to be perfect and there are going to be a lot of bumps and bruises on the path towards your perfect essay. One must prepare to sit in complete isolation and a room with dead silence so frightening that you can hear your own thoughts. My time throughout Composition I has been an experience in which I finally put together all the aspects of writing such as integrating quotes, using present tense, expanding my vocabulary, and pinning down my grammatical errors. The grade that I deserve is an A because I have taken small steps to improve my writing and it has shown in my grade.
When writing, there were some factors that I was confused or simply didn’t have the knowledge of. Thankfully over the past semester there was a great amount of material I learned about English. There were many things I could improve on, such as grammar, thesis, and organization. However, organization was the main problem for myself throughout the semester. Fortunately, during the semester I was able to improve my organization in my writing.
When I initially began my English 28 class I was not the finest writer. I’m still not perfect, but I have improved a lot. At the very beginning of the semester, I didn’t consider myself a writer. I never enjoyed writing essays because I knew I wasn’t very good at them. I always made multiple errors and would fail to correct them because I wasn’t aware of how to. For example, I didn’t know how to fix a comma splice.
Writing is a process that is distinct, and unique to each person, and over one’s academic career there is this adoption of one’s own unique writing process. My writing process begins with me getting into a creative mindset, one in which I’m able to stimulate thought and emotion from on the given topic. I then go onto to create a graphic organizer of all the ideas that I generate and wish to use in my piece. After I have developed a list of workable ideas, I begin to write my first draft. During this step, I put all the ideas I had generated in point form into paragraph form. After I have written a rough draft of the assigned piece of writing, I gave it to either a peer, or family member to read through; so I can get an external perspective
All begin with the title and the first paragraph. I have to make sure that my first paragraph and title are not generic, this is a key factor to understand what my essay is about. I had to improve my writing style to be eye-catching, to make it easy to understand. The introduction of the thesis is the clickbait of my assignment; it has to be clear and focus and reach the reader.
I really haven't been writing this years at all but i've been writing on some journal entries that ask me all different questions on different stuff. Only reason why is because i haven't really been there for the writing because i came to the school almost beginning of april and since then we haven't really wrote anything and i just got suspended like 2 weeks ago and so ya i really haven't been there for nothing.
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
I learned to write like most people did. It was a skill passed on to me by my family. My Grandpa taught me how to write. When I was 3 and 4 years old I did not go to preschool like most kids my age did. Instead each day before work my mom would drop me off at my Grandpa’s house and he would look after me and teach me the things I would need to know to start kindergarten, these days spent at his house were referred to as “Grandpa’s school”. Each day I sat down at the kitchen table and used a stencil to practice my letters. This instilled in me a love for writing.
Personal narratives allow you to share your life with others and vicariously experience the things that happen around you. Your job as a writer is to put the reader in the midst of the action letting him or her live through an experience. Although a great deal of writing has a thesis, stories are different. A good story creates a dramatic effect, makes us laugh, gives us pleasurable fright, and/or gets us on the edge of our seats. A story has done its job if we can say, "Yes, that captures what living with my father feels like," or "Yes, that’s what being cut from the football team felt like."
This past semester had some difficult assignments that I wasn't fully prepared for. At the beginning of the semester my essays usually included a lack of vocabulary, punctuation errors especially with commas, and not understanding how to write thesis statements. This semester has truly taught me new ways to write, learning to write about topics I dislike or one’s I'm not sure how to write. This semester has really pushed me to the point where I can express myself in my writing and especially learning new writing techniques. Before I actually believed I was a pretty good writer, but now it's gotten even better. I hope that I will be able to become even better than I am now in my writing.
I chose three pieces of writing from the beginning, middle and end of weekly writing. I personally like to write dumb funny story’s. They are funny because they are random, and you never know what to expect next. This writing style shines throughout all of my weekly writing stories. An example is in my first writing piece it starts as a book transcript of a book about trolls, followed by a man who took in a drunk Gandalf. The stories are unplanned.
