What worked well during my talk mainly is my accent and pronunciation that was comprehensible and it vastly helped me delivering my message across the audience. I have a slight problem in speaking with an American accent but hearing back my talk I was able to understood it as a neutral audience. In my talk, I was able to point out most of my major points that has been rehearsed such as the statistics and limitation involved. I was also able to keep the audience looking forward to my problem-solution talk as my problem's description was kept a secret. What didn't worked well during my talk is I kept on focusing on my slides instead of the audience. I made eye contact occasionally with the audience which made the audience lose their attention.
I am a person who knows how to set goals and achieve them, and have a proven track record of being able to conceive, develop and execute strategies in business and marketing. I feel certain that my strong communication skills coupled with my professional and academic abilities will be of immediate value to your company.
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
Our first speaker Dam, an external consultant for change management, gave the class great insight into the world of consulting. I really enjoyed listening to Dan life story; it was interesting to see how an education major was able to transition into the consulting world. I also appreciated the “ no offense but story”, that we talked about. Understanding and knowing how to talk to any given audience was the main point from the story and I thought it made a lot of sense. Also, I appreciated the fact that he gave us personal insight into the daily and weekly life of a consultant. I understand that not all consultants work like this, but Dan travels a lot during the week and comes home during the weekend. What I did not like to much was the
One of the main things that I did well, was trying to maintain eye contact with everyone from my audience. Trying not to relay on my note cards a lot helped me to look at everyone; however, some of my audiences said that I was doing more eye contact with one side of the class than the other side so I need to work on that more. Another thing that I think I did well was using gesture. Since I was holding my note card with one hand, I was able to use my other hand to do some gesture to demonstrate some of the ideas presented in my speech. In addition to maintaining eye contact and using gesture, I liked the visual aid that I used for my speech because it supported my speech and a lot of my audiences liked the information that were provided through my visual aid.
Listen While You Work Ever since I’ve entered ninth grade, I’ve had more homework than my eight years of education. Considering that this year's grades count, I try to get all my homework done and give it my best effort. When I get home from a long day of sports and school, it's hard to concentrate because I like to catch up on social media and socialize with family. When I do my homework I put in both of my earbuds and listen to Spotify with radio stations such as “Pure Pop” or “Rap Caviar” mainly because that's my favorite music to listen to and it makes me feel caught up on the latest music hits. I thought that this music helped me concentrate while I was working, but after studying how music affects your brain while studying, I was wrong.
We all have things that we excel in and things that we aren’t the best at. Personally, my strengths are centered around organization, planning, and time management. Although these are all things that I can incorporate into my school work and home life, I do feel that I am not capitalizing on my strengths at work.
Making a successful public presentation or speech to an audience was a very big task for me before I joined the public speaking class. I was always frightened and very nervous. Since then I now understand the process of making a speech or a presentation including coming up with a topic and from this topic develop the main points of the speech, research, organize my points, revise them, edit and make a magnificent presentation to any audience. People in the audience might sometimes agree or disagree with my opinion or points, it was therefore necessary to communicate my information clearly to the audience without making any judgments since every person was entitled to a different opinion and views about things.
In public speaking I learned many types of concepts, theories and terms of communication. In concepts of publicly speaking there’s, relaxation, practice, credibility, attention getters, attire, organization, volume, emotion, audience relation, and movement. In my first speech, “The any old bag speech” I quickly learned the do’s, don’ts and concepts of my speech performance.
Informative Presentation In my presentation on drag racing I feel my top communication strengths would be my presentation aid, voice, and my knowledge on the topic. I believe all of which helped my presentation go smoothly, without too many hiccups. Each of these strengths played a huge part in my speech.
For my introductory speech, there was a lot I had to think about. Having to talk about myself, in front of class full of strangers, was something I felt very uneasy about. The one thing that hindered my delivery of the speech was nervousness. I was very nervous when giving the speech and knowing that I was nervous subsequently made me more nervous. During my speech I can see that my voice is shaky and almost breathless, the typical signs of anxiety and nervousness. Because I was nervous, I decided that a good way to reduce my anxiety was to not look at the audience. That is very obvious by my lack of eye contact and looking at the ceiling for most of the presentation. Something that I found that needs improvement is finding a good closing statement. From the video I can see that people were a bit confused on whether or not my speech had finished. Finding a good statement can help people know my speech as ended, it can also avoid that awkward pause while people try to figure out if I have finished or not. Finally, something that I needed to improve was the swaying. Again, it was a way for me to keep calm and make my time upfront a little bit more bearable.
When you hear of someone who went to a highly competitive school, it’s expected that they are still highly competitive in the workforce. My father despite the motivation and skill, has been unable to work since 2006. Being incapable to do what he had been striving for in terms of work and his ability to provide for his family definitely has affected him. Currently my father is able to live at home, and is still mobile. When I was younger his health fluctuated, and there was a point where I rarely saw him outside of a hospital room. A flurry of tubes running from machines to him float through the memories of growing up. I gave a 20 minute presentation 16 times a day and the conclusion four times, I got use to public speaking very fast! The two stations I did during the dealer waves were about the same product but delivered a completely different message. In one class I talked about the ease of use and comfort of our mowers and the other was about strength and longevity. It was a good mix for me to have and had me learn that much more about our products. I also think it was very beneficial for me to give our conclusion. This helped me a lot with my public speaking because I stood in front of the entire group and tried to get them engaged in what I was saying. It was very important for us to get every dealer question answered the correct way or follow up with them if we could not find the answer. This is where my studying came into play so I was confident and precise when I was asked questions. If I did not know the answer to a question I would find someone that did or take the contact information from the dealer and follow up with them once I talked to a product specialist. I also got to meet multiple field team members that I will continue to talk with throughout my career. The ones that were in my station and the others I met were all very willing to talk and answer my questions. I got offered to follow some of them in the field and would love to take

I am now more aware of my eye contact with the entire audience will need to be practiced becoming more fluid with my speeches. During my introduction speech I locked down my eye contact on who I was introducing and our professor. One way of me improving this cue will be practicing my speech with more family members in a room. I will place them further apart to gain a setting of our classroom or a larger venue. With more practice eye contact will improve my overall speech presentation.
Making a presentation just like to give a class to the audience, the lecturers are the teacher and the audience are their students.
