Parenting Classes in High School Most of us during our infamous teenage years or early college years don’t plan on bringing a cute, chunky, tiny, and adorable little baby into this world, but the fact of the matter for some it, unfortunately, does happen at such a young age. I personally didn’t imagine going through my childhood years and some teenage years without my mother and having other relatives and family members step in and work together to raise me because my mother wasn’t ready to take on the job of raising a baby. Parenthood is one of the most challenging responsibilities a human being can ever bear. That is why classes about parenthood should, in fact, be a requirement in the school system for freshman through senior classes. …show more content…
According to the World Health Organization, there are 40-50 million reported abortions per year, that’s estimated to about 125,000 abortions each day. Each year in the U.S, nearly 51,000 kids are put up for adoption. All of these numbers are extremely high for just 1 year, just 365 days. That’s mostly because people aren’t ready to be parents, and these numbers could more than likely be easily reduced from parenting classes. Parenting classes have many benefits like learning the hardships of teen parenting, getting insights on adult responsibilities, sex education and prevention of teen pregnancy, improvement of child and parent relationships, greater empathy, and preventing dropouts. Not only does it offer these benefits but it teaches basic skills like domestics skills which are cooking and cleaning, growth and development of a child, learning how to handle each stage as the child grows, learning how to change diapers, bathe infants and young children, and other things that are important to know as a
Some people who are for abortion say that the baby can be put up for adoption. While they can be, there are already four hundred thousand children up for adoption in the United States of America. Only, one fourth of those kids are waiting
In a 2006 study conducted by the CDC, it was reported that 53-56% of abortions were performed on white women between the ages of 20 and 29. Among the 46 states that provided data consistently during 1996--2006, a total of 835,134 abortions (98.7% of the total) were reported; the abortion rate was 16.1 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15--44 years, and the abortion ratio was 236 abortions per 1,000 live births. During the previous decade (1997--2006), reported abortion numbers, rates, and ratios decreased 5.7%, 8.8%, and 14.8%, respectively; most of these declines occurred before 2001. During the previous year (2005--2006), the total number of abortions increased 3.1%, and the abortion rate increased 3.2%; the abortion ratio was stable. (CDC, 2009)
Since the year 1973, when the Roe vs.Wade decision was made, there have been 56,405,766 abortions performed in the United States(Guttmacher 1). This number represents the horrifying number of unborn babies that have been aborted over the past several years. Babies die every year at the hands of abortion and a very small number of people and organizations in the U.S try to stop it. The Catholic Church is completely against abortion and is the main reason why abortions are decreasing in number at all. "Each and every human being is created by God, in His image, to fulfill a unique purpose in life, no matter how long or short, healthy or sick, rich or poor that life may be. From the moment of conception, all human life must be protected without exception and without compromise" (Brown 43). Abortion must be banned at all costs and with no exceptions, even in the cases of rape, incest, deformity of the child, or danger to the mother's life.
Raising children as a teenage mother is a tough thing to do. No teenager wants to have a child at early age unless they are forced by circumstances beyond their control. My niece had her first child, when she was sixteen and it was extremely difficult for her, to raise her child, without her parents support. In addition to that she was also attend a pregnancy and childcare education provided to her by a local based child support center. Because of the two main reasons, I indicated above she was able to pass through pregnancy, successfully to raise her child. Getting basic education about pregnancy and newborn childcare is very important, particularly for first time mothers.
Schools haven’t invested in showing the difficulty of taking care of a child. Most students have to find out themselves the reality of having a child instead of being informed of the expenses of children in school. People won’t worry about the chances of pregnancy unless they know what happens afterwards and the money that is
There are so many families that are not able to have their own children, but adoption is a great way for child loving families to have the opportunity to raise and bond with children in need of parents. Since there are so many families wanting to adopt a child, there is no reason anyone can fairly say that a child could ever be unwanted. In 2011 a total of “730,322 abortions were reported to Centers for Disease Control” and only 9,319 children were adopted. Adoptions are always great for children and safe for them as well. Background checks and extensive research is always mandatory before child services allow adults to adopt, and when they are clear to make an adoption, a child’s life is changed and in most cases they are saved. It is a mystery why anyone would choose death over life and abortion over adoption. To abort a baby is to not only take the child’s opportunity at life away, but to also take away another family’s chance at having their own
1.06 million is the number of abortions took place in the U.S in 2011 according to Guttmacher Institute. This is not a small number in compare to the whole population of the world. 1.06 million abortions equals to more than 1.06 million babies have been killed before they even have full bodies. That’s a very sad statistic to look at. And what is the main reason why this sad number exists? We could blame poor education in sex for this controversy issue. Lack of knowledge about sex and how to have safe sex could lead to pregnancy and the outburst of sexual transmitted diseases. If the pregnancy was unexpected, the mother will get abortion; which is not only pitiful to the unborn child but also very
Abortion has been a huge issue in the United States ever since Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade was a supreme court case that allowed women to have an abortion because it was a woman 's right to her own privacy. After this supreme court case, they made restriction on abortion. According to Abortion Procedures During First, Second and Third Trimester (2016) , in some states women can’t have an abortion after her third trimester or when the baby can survive outside the womb. Even though we have restrictions towards abortion the amount of babies aborted are very high. According to Jones and Kooistra (2011), in the United States twenty-three out of one hundred pregnant women choose to have an abortion rather than to keep the baby. Abortions have become more and more common. We have become insensitive toward abortion and
In the U.S. about 1.6 million pregnancies end in abortion. A majority of women in America with an income below 11,000 are 3 times more likely to abort their unborn child rather than those whose income is above 25,000. Also, women who are divorced or unmarried are 4 to 5 times more likely to abort than a stable married woman.(1)
(1993), every year the number of woman who chooses abortion is about 1.5 million in United States. Almost half of American women get unplanned pregnancy, and 54% of these end in abortion (Finer LB & Zolna MR, 2011). Nearly one fifth of pregnancies end in abortion (Jones RK & Kooistra, K, 2011).
There are 1.5 million adopted children in the United States. (Fields, Jason,) If the parents weren't ready to have to a child, instead of abortion there's adoption. There are different types of adoption. Foster care adoption is the adoption of children in state care for whom reunification with their birth parents is not possible for safety or other reasons. Private adoption can be arranged either through an agency or through independent adoption. Adoption is a lot safer than abortion, if people knew the facts about abortion i bet they'd rather give their child for adoption rather than having an abortion.
According to CNN (cable news network), since the legality of abortions by the supreme courts in 1973, the number of abortions has increased gradually. The CDC (centers for disease control and prevention) reported 1,292,606 abortions in 1980. The number count continued by millions until the year 2000. Rates began to decrease, but the numbers still remained high. 2009 is the year CDC has recently given reports on the statistics of abortion in the United States. The ratio in that year has been 227 out of 1000 live births. 64% of abortions legally induced were performed at eight or fewer weeks during the gestation period. Women ages 20-29 were the 57.1% who went for an abortion. 51.2 % of the women were white (including Hispanic and non-Hispanic white women) 41.2% of the women were black, and 7.6% of adult females from other races. The top three states with the most abortions were: New York, Florida, and Texas. The statistics shown is inco...
Parenting is defined by two definitions. The first definition states that parenting is simply the rearing of children. But can “parenting” be put in such simple terms? Taking care of a child is an overwhelming task for parents both young and older, all of which face similar challenges when it comes to raising kids. Parents should have basic knowledge of how to take care of their children from their early steps to them growing older. Parenting classes offer just that. These classes offer knowledge from taking care of children of varying ages to how to connect them with on an emotional level. All new parents should be required to take basic parenting classes; such classes would be beneficial to both the parents and their kids.
...be aware of the signs when education is needed for a family. Unfortunately, all families have barriers and may not be able to attend parenting classes to receive the education that may be necessary before the birth of their child. At that point, it then becomes the nurse’s responsibility to recognize the impairment, put interventions into place, and evaluate the family before discharge. For successful childrearing, parents need knowledge about raising children. Parenting classes and health-care professionals working with parents can contribute to raising children (Campbell,1992).
Parent involvement affects all aspects of a child’s education. Parents must be involved as teachers, learners, supporters, and advocates of their child’s learning (Hopkings). Studies show that kids who know that their parents are involved and interested tend to take more responsibility for their own learning and behavior. Schoolwork and grades improve. Work habits improve. Less work is handed in late. Fewer referrals for behavior problems are made. Attendance increases, and fewer kids show up late for class (Hopkings). With all this information documented it shows the true importance of parent involvement in education. The more involved the parents are, the better off each child will be. So when you become a parent, get involved in your child’s education!
