Abortion: Banned or Accepted?
Since the year 1973, when the Roe vs.Wade decision was made, there have been 56,405,766 abortions performed in the United States(Guttmacher 1). This number represents the horrifying number of unborn babies that have been aborted over the past several years. Babies die every year at the hands of abortion and a very small number of people and organizations in the U.S try to stop it. The Catholic Church is completely against abortion and is the main reason why abortions are decreasing in number at all. "Each and every human being is created by God, in His image, to fulfill a unique purpose in life, no matter how long or short, healthy or sick, rich or poor that life may be. From the moment of conception, all human life must be protected without exception and without compromise" (Brown 43). Abortion must be banned at all costs and with no exceptions, even in the cases of rape, incest, deformity of the child, or danger to the mother's life.
In 1990, the number of abortions in the U.S increased in number to 1.55 million a year and remained at this level for about 10 years(NRLC 2). After all this time, it seems that mankind has finally started to realize the dignity of a human person. The Catholic Church teaches formal participation in the act of an abortion is a grave offense and that since the time of the First Century, the Church has declared righteous evil of every performed abortion(Catechism of the Catholic Church 548). The Catholic moral law of the church is that "You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. ...protection, and cherished as a person that has a soul, body, personality, and purpose that will never occur again. Life itself was created by God. Death was created by Satan. We should never, at any time in our life, choose to follow Satan and support the Culture of Death that kills babies every day. Bibliography
