It is encouraged by the nursing process, which is used by nurses in order to diagnose and treat patients. In a way methodology serves a nursing process of researchers and scientist, along with the scientific method. Methodology is also used in organizations and businesses to find and fix problems and make business decisions. In collecting information it is important to collect as much info as possible to support any claim, theory, or experiment. When seeking data, a person should look into the different methods of collecting data, such as: surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observation. In this case study the nurse could effectively use any of those methods to collect a bunch of info pertaining to her topic of interest. Before outlining a methodology, the nurse should know why and how she gathered her info and what it’s supporting. Very similar to the scientific method, the nurse should have an idea or hypothesis that drives her research. She should document her evidence and her methods of collecting the data. These things should happen when using methodology and the nursing process. The nurse in this case study is seeking info that could help nurses understand patient noncompliance and how to handle it. This nurse has a bunch of opportunities to collect the information she needs to form a methodology. She is in constant contact with patients and colleagues who she could interview or survey at any time. Nurse researchers recognize the need to consult other experts and to consider other organizational patterns (Cravens, pg.140). When performing evidence based practice research, the Iowa Model uses a team or individual approach to assist nurses in the journey to quality care. The Iowa Model begins by offering a process of selecting a proper clinical topic, which is often a recurring problematic issue (Polit & Beck, 2012). This topic is formulated as a question to improve a technique or procedure. Once the researcher determines that an ample amount of reported investigation exists on the desired question, information may be gathered and presented for approval (Polit & Beck, 2012). The research may lead to a gradual change in nursing practice.
Based on this theory, it is focuses on individuals who are in poor health and under the physician’s care. She believes that major concern in nursing is resolving individual’s need for help by using an interactive discipline process that is gained through training. Orlando (1990) observed that her interpretation of nursing process is wider than the one usually advocated in undergraduate nursing curriculum. This theory give large impact on nursing education in North America and globally, although the emphasis on the process itself may have detracted from wider intent of theory to improve the interaction between client and nurses. Self-care has a very different meaning for people. It varies from person to person and can be based on age, gender, religion, occupation, and their type of lifestyle that they live. For myself, my self-care has changed since starting nursing school and I now know have to look at it in terms of nursing. Although my self-care has not changed substantially I now have to realize that being a nurse, I will have more responsibility’s and will be taking care of others and I cannot take care of others until I take care of myself. Self-care is very important for many reasons; in my opinion a healthy person in mind, body and soul is a happy person. You cannot take care of others if you yourself are not healthy and happy.

The purpose of this paper is to review the theory of self-regulation and how it can be applied to practice in health care settings to improve patient outcomes. According to Johnson (1997), more than 25 years of research has influenced the development of the self-regulation theory, which is about coping with healthcare experiences. Health problems have shifted from acute to chronic where it has been identified that personal behaviors are linked to over half of societies chronic health problems (Ryan & Sawin, 2009). As the modern nurse strives to provide specialized care and improve patient outcomes, the utilization of nursing theory continues to gain importance. This theory explains how patients use specific types of information to cope with health care events thus providing a rational for selecting information that can be expected to benefit patients. The concept of self-regulation has been a part of nursing practice in a circumlocutory fashion for years. It has been most commonly referred to as self-management creating considerable ambiguity and overlapping of definitions for that term and self-regulation (SR). Developing confidence, and competence is a challenge faced by novice nurses (Morrell & Ridgway, 2014). Over the course of my nursing degree developing, and maintaining confidence in my clinical practice has always been a personal challenge. During my preceptorship placement, I have the opportunity to continue to cultivate my confidence, and prepare to begin my practice as an independent graduate nurse. I will be addressing 'Gibbs ' reflective model; in order to have a comprehensive perspective upon my self-awareness during the interview at the 'The University of Nottingham ', for the position of an Adult Nurse. Self awareness in nursing refers to how glowing nurses comprehend themselves, their strengths, weaknesses, attitude and ethics in order to better transact with their patients. Self- awareness includes review of self, together with self confidence. Self -regulation express beyond one`s emotion and being trustworthy. For nurses to be able to empathize with their patients and treat them with compassion, they have to be self aware. When nurses are self aware, they are capable to adapt to, or certainly change their attitudes and deed in order to understand how unusual people take care of them hence improving the nurse- patient relationship. Nurses must reflect carefully on whether they can sustain in dependence in caring for a client and whether the relationship interferes with gathering the client’s needs. It is also essential to be sure that providing care to family and friends does not interfere with the care of other clients or with the dynamics of the health care group.
