Nike Mission Statement

I decided to use Nike as my topic. I have always been a fan of their products. Nike does more than just make shoes, clothes. They also are always trying to make a difference.

Nike Mission/Vision Statement:

To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world.

*If you have a body, you are an athlete.

Nike believes that all people are athletes whether you run in marathons or walk around your sub division they have the product for you. Nike started on January 25, 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports with a $500 investment from each founding partner, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. Then on May 30, 1978, the company officially became Nike, Inc.

Nike began as a shoe company, but has grown into one of the biggest and most recognizable companies

The customer and the market always help dictate what and where the needs are. Being an innovator in their industry is what has kept Nike at the forefront of the sporting world.

The company has also been in the news for negative publicity for running sweatshops and child labor allegations. They have been criticized by activist groups for poor working conditions as well as violating minimum wage and overtime laws in their overseas factories. Child labor has been a focus as well with documentaries about children in other countries working for the company. Nike has always denied these allegations, but quietly took to the factories to clean up and take more control.

No successful company will go without controversy. Not everyone will agree with how a company conducts business, but Nike has shown that it tries to conduct themselves with class and care. Nike is always trying to event new ways to use recycled materials ad conserve water to help the environment. For example since early 1990 Nike has used a recycled shoes program called Reuse-A-Shoe by turning old shoes into what they call grind. They have partnered with sports surfacing companies to incorporate the grinds into field surface and
