Start here This course impacted my view in leadership in many different ways. Leadership is something I did not have beginning of the semester. I was still trying to find myself. I knew that I had to do well in school, and I could not slack off. The day I entered your class you started talking about leadership. I thought to myself I should be a leader as well. Every day I added a leadership quality such as: working hard, knowing all my information about school and telling my classmates, and also just giving people advice. Because of this I course I could say I have some leadership qualities inside of me. I learned that leadership is not a one day thing. That the person has to expand and get out of his comfort zone to be a leader. Leaders are not coward and they always do the right thing. …show more content…
This will not only benefit me in college, but in the long run as well. I gained skills from leadership. I know now how to help people in many ways. An example would be if someone is hurt, except for them to panic and yell if there in pain. I can use my leadership qualities by providing them help and calming them down. The leadership course was really helpful because it changed me as a person. I was not a leader in august. But, by attending the ropes course and doing all the leadership activities in your class I am one now. I can teach other people to be a leader as well. My opinion is leaders are not born but made. I was not born as a leader, but I was made to be one. I react differently in different situations. If I have a big test coming, I don’t over react. I study ever day before the test. I make sure my time is good. These are some qualities leader should have in my opinion. People that are on the top and helping other
I first encountered the significance of leadership in the tenth grade. Berry College the largest campus in the U.S. was in search of school ambassadors to serve part in a seminar known as HOBY. To get chosen you had to write an essay describing your leadership roles, and at that moment I thought that I did not have any. I literally did not know what it meant to be a leader. I had to brainstorm till I remembered going through one of the most difficult times of my life. The lack of understanding the English language became one of my biggest obstacles, and even caused me to repeat a chapter of my life. However, I did not cease; I continued to fight and strove to help others who were susceptible of following my steps. I used my story as an example, and hoped that it would make a difference in someone else’s life.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
During my college days I was assigned a group project and as a leader of it I was expected to motivate and influence them to achieve our goal but due to lack of knowledge of leadership, it proved to be a bad example of leadership. I faced many expected challenges as during the project I was not aware of certain concepts and theories of a good leader. But now my current awareness of leadership and management has changed the way I used to see any leader and practice leadership myself. If I had been aware of the traits of a leader in detail before then it would have been a different outcome of my past leadership experience. I have realized that leadership is an indirect sign of power and everyone wants to be powerful. And in the 21st century it is nearly impossible to make someone work by force or by dictatorship (exclude certain exceptions). My learning about the leadership and its relation to effective management states that there is a very thin line between a leader and a manager and the owner of a business must be flexible between them for a successful business. My current knowledge about leadership will help me to become a charismatic and influential person to make a difference to the world, an impact on others life which is my main goal in life. Managing and leadership are related to each other. Leadership
Leadership is an intangible quality found in people that can make a serious difference in an organization and have tangible results. This paper will be about me, and will be another step in my development as a leader. Most of the topics talked about in this essay come from the various readings done during the semester, my own life experiences, and from the different lessons taught during the lecture of this course. There are a number of lessons that I learned this year that have stuck with me and most likely will for a long time. Before this class I didn’t exactly take the time to focus on myself as a leader. This paper is to reflect on myself and on those lessons learned throughout my life. The paper will start off with section A discussing who I am as a leader, and will describe my comprehensive leadership style with examples from specific situations. Section B of the essay will be about me, and what I believe as a leader. This essay will be a fantastic way to learn about myself as a leader, and a great way for the reader to get a better understanding of who I am.
Leadership and come to mean different things to different people. One of the biggest reasons that I took this class was to become a stronger leader in my personal life, as well as professional. I did not take this class because I have a desire to me in management at this point in my career. What is important to me was to look at this way to be a better employee, in reacting to management styles. I also wanted to take different aspects of management and implement them into being a leader in my family. I have had several managers that I have respected during my career and certain attributes I wanted to emulate. My current manger David Taggerty took the time out to discuss his role as a leader and how he got into leadership. We took a look at what he values as a leader and how he also attributes this to his personal life. I took some of his learning experiences, along with information I have obtained in this class, to help me determine what leadership is going to look at in my future career as well as my life.
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Coming to Ashesi University completely changed my views on Leadership. I realized I was a leader so far as I could influence people around me intentionally or otherwise. I learnt about the difference between big L’s and small L’s with Big L’s being people in position of authority while small L’s were people not necessarily in any position of authority, but anyone who could cause an influence. This realization shocked me and I realized I had been a leader so far as I caused an influence whether negative or positive in someone’s life. Courses like Leadership 1 taught me differently from what I had always known about leaders. For instance, first introductory lectures of servant leadership got me confused. Quotes like “you are a servant first” threw me away. What! A servant was the last thing on earth I would ever think of becoming. Why am I a servant first? What happened to the benefits I am supposed to enjoy as a Leadership? This was not what my senior high school days exposed me to. I was supposed to enjoy all the benefits that came with my position as a leader. Now I am being told to become a servant first and to serve. Finishing the Leadership 1 course made me understand that the reason why most leaders fail and especially most African leaders failed was because of the similar mindset to mine they had as becoming a leader. Which is to enrich and benefit themselves only. Getting to understand this began to make me think differently as a Leader. This was because I hated how African continent was so poor even though we have enough natural resources to our disposal that could better the lives of everyone in the continent. As I watched my family suffer to make ends meet and the bad roads and services I encounter daily as a citizen of Ghana, I understood fully that there was no way Africa would develop to its full potential if majority had the same mindset
The. As a leader it is important you learn as much as possible to help lead your team and to assist clients. Being equipped with the skills and knowledge will help others find confidence in you and your team will trust you to lead them. When I first became a leader, I was scared because I was going to manage two new employees in a position.
Through The leadership program, I have experienced many different things and have been introduced to new and different ways of thinking. The new and different experiences I had include working on a community service project with 25 of my peers (with help from our instructors and mentors) and working on an individual leadership project. The numerous and diverse speakers that taught the class each week brought with them unique perspectives. The speaker that I found most enlightening was Lance Brunner because his presentation awakened new emotions in me. Lance Brunner's session was about Mindfulness. The way he taught was attention grabbing. It focused the whole class's attention on what he was talking about. I especially like the point he made about thoughts being impermanent and how we should not let them control what we do. Lance taught me that a thought is as permanent or impermanent as everything else...
After the self-assessments from the book, now I know what kind of leader I can be, what are the weakness I need to work on and how I can influence my team and the people outside my work environment. This course has taught me many different type of leadership style and one cannot be an effective leader but just following one specific style. To be an effective leader you need to assess the situation and act according to the situations.
Leadership is not a position or a title it is action and example. In this Reflection, I will write about course topic, Leadership examples and me as a leadership. In course topic, I turn to what was the most interesting topic to me, which topic I find it difficult and which topic I find it useful for the future. In the Leadership examples, I turn to the most interesting thing I learned about a famous leader. The most important thing that great leaders all have in common, and I describe one famous leader’s approach to leading. In me as a leadership, I turn to what did I learn about being a leader from doing the classroom activities. What I will do is I was given a job as an office manager after graduating and if I would like
In an article titled “Today’s Students Need Leadership Training like Never Before” Richard Greenwald said this about the importance of teaching leadership to all the students. “Graduates of leadership programs may not be crowned leaders as soon as they get their diplomas, but ideally they will have the skills to lead tomorrow 's generation and to thrive in the new economy” (Greenwald). It’s clear that the leadership skills given to students will help them later on in life. Teaching leadership helps people solve problems more effectively, communicate better, and have “responsible decision making…” skills (Lewis). By allowing every student the same opportunity to broaden their leadership skillset, explore new techniques, and guiding them along the path to becoming leaders that are more effective, the reward will be improved leaders that are capable of handling daily life situations. The nation needs leaders that are more knowledgeable, and teachers have the power to help create future leaders and provide them with the information and examples to learn
Being a leader is one of the most incredibles opportunities any individual can be presented with. "A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals” (Gardner, Howard 2012). An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. Leadership skills are all around us. They can be applied to any situation where one may be required to take the lead. This can be
I think that developing leadership in our youth is very essential. Developing leadership skills at a young age will be very beneficial to the person as they get older. They will have something to fall back on and build on from their youth. Leadership will benefit them in everything they do, and help them stand out. Standing out in a positive way will allow them to go much further than someone without great leadership skills. There are many different ways that will help develop you as a leader, and the rewards are endless once you master the art of being a great leader.
