You see, happiness is not measurable, profitable, nor tradable. Yet, above all else in the world, it is what people seek.
People are in a constant search for happiness, but happiness, like air or water, is intangible. For something so out sight how does one know if they have it?
Therefore, if it isn’t the attainment of tangible things that make you happy then what can? Well, purpose can. As human beings, people need to have a sense of purpose to achieve this feeling of self-satisfaction. This can be seen in Martin Luther King’s statement in which he describes man’s freedom in the ability to “pursuit happiness”. This pursuit of happiness entails the discovery of a purpose; the notion that man was put on this earth for a reason, and when an individual can fulfill this reason; he has approached happiness. …show more content…

The mere recognition of oneself is a step towards happiness. This can be revealed in the fact that during the times of Martin Luther King, the segregation of blacks and whites, the African-Americans internalized their oppression and lost their purpose for life. Their thirst for achieving their goals was diluted by their continuous oppression, and was a result of the fact that they were not recognized has equal beings. Here, the notion of recognition is crucial to the path of happiness; you cannot find your purpose in life if you do not know where to look for
