Junior Year: Personal Statement

Junior year has been the hardest school-year – no kidding. The obstacles that I faced of trying to ace a test, or the sacrifices that I made to study for an assessment over going shopping and having fun, have made a permanent impact on me. I learned that if there is something that you want to achieve, you have to be constantly driven, diligent, and persistent. There has to be a vision, a reminder in your mind that makes you feel that you need to study or that you need to do your homework because that will serve as a motivation to reach your goals. Of course, that reminder could be fear of failing school, becoming a dropout, or not getting accepted to college. Now that is a reminder that haunts me. The journey to maintaining exceptional grades and test scores, however, was never that easy. I had to dedicate lots of time towards understanding complicated concepts, such as the krebs cycle and the ETC. I turned towards many resources for help and guidance including YouTube, CliffsNotes, Quizlet, Google, and my teachers’ websites. There were many times that I did not want to study nor do any work because of how fed up I was with schoolwork and how school was becoming a burden. Moreover, I did not like choosing school over going out somewhere to have fun, it felt as if I was missing out on my social life. Every now and then, it was helpful to hear words of inspiration. One day I came across a quote that was along the lines of “pain is temporary… grades are forever”. Reflecting on the quote, I realized that choosing to study or doing whatever I needed to do to pass my classes in turn shows not only what I prioritize but how badly I want to reach my goals – especially since I want to study nursing. I think it is a huge motivator when you have a goal on your mind, otherwise there is seems to be no purpose to everything that you are
