At some point in a woman's life, she may think of the idea of having a child. Some young girls are taught at a young age that when she grows up, someday she can have a family of her own if she chooses. When I was a child, I remember my mother and other womanly influences telling me that when I'm older, I might have a family of my own; and in result of this, ever since I was little, I have planned out how many children I want to have, and my expectations of my family life. However, while many women see themselves having children someday, and understand the process of carrying a child, some women might be in the dark about the complications that can come along with pregnancy. Life can throw curve balls, and everything that may have been planned, and thought out clearly might not go as smoothly as expected. There are many complications that can occur from pregnancy for mom and baby. In fact, one of the most common complications to occur is Down syndrome. And while Down syndrome may be very common, many women are making the decision to abort their fetuses once they are aware of the disability.
There can be many reasons as to why a woman might have an abortion. It may be due to an unwanted pregnancy in general, health issues with the mother that will cause her sickness throughout the pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, and even awareness of a physical flaw with the child such as down syndrome. Prenatal testing has made it possible to determine whether or not a baby will have down syndrome during pregnancy, and research has shown that 92% of women who are aware of their child having a disability, abort their pregnancy. One statistic showed that from 2002 to 2010, 17,983 babies with disabilities were aborted in the UK. It is mentioned that many of these babies were compatible for life outside of the womb. This means that the baby could have survived, and abortion was not necessary.
To those who are unaware of exactly what an abortion is; it is when a pregnant woman has a fetus removed from her womb. This can either happen by induced labor, or by an in office procedure where the woman is put under general anesthesia and the fetus is surgically removed. This procedure usually takes place under a few hours and the patient may be sent home that day.

If a mother has health issues that could place her life at risk while having a baby, then that mother may need to have an abortion to save her life. Many pro choice leaders look for the best option for a mother and the baby. They look for many alternatives that give the mother and her child both their best outlook on life. A lot of parents do not have the capability or money to handle a child with disabilities, which the article failed to show. A large amount of parents consider if abortion will be the best for that type of situation. Some women may actually want to carry their child but could have a medical issue that can lead them to having a miscarriage which can lead to an abortion. They look ahead on what is best for them, and it is selfish. Or even having in mind that some do not want to become a single parent taking up two roles; a mother and father and they feel like every child should come into the world feeling wanted, loved and cared for. Another reason some women have an abortion is because they do not want to stop work or schooling, and these reasons are consistent across many countries, including America. Other reasons are because of societal pressures, women get little to no social support. But
