Deciding on what to do after high school is a tough choice, especially for someone who is as indecisive as me. In today's society, most people have a strong belief that our generation has to take their education to a college level. They also make assumptions that if someone decides not to go to college that they are not smart enough or too lazy. But “for many people, the decision to attend college is largely a monetary one (Gouveia). Which prompts the question, is college is worth the time and money? So to start of we need to know the reasons on why do people attend college. It scares them because they are not ready to face the real world and just want to live a simple life but when going to college all there is, is competition. Most of the competition is between you and the rest of the Unites States population which is about 329 million (Population). But we are worried about is the 19.1 million that attend college (Bureau). So this means that the people going to college will have to fight for who can basically get a job. And with all the people going with this mindset that by getting a degree it’s their only hope of getting a job, they are just mistreating the degree but they usually find themselves in debt realizing that long boring classes that may be too advance are not meant for them. So assuming that you’re going to college in-state; the average tuition annually is around $10,000 for a public college(2017-18 Tuition). The average student that graduates with a degree takes them about six years. So if we do some basic math it adds to a total of $60,000 not including other expenses which could easily raise to $80,000 or more. Keep in mind that this price could change dramatically depending on what degree you’re pursuing, if you are going to an out-of-state college or in-state college, or if you're going to a public or private school. Which prompts the question of how could anyone whos is normal be able to afford to pay sixty grand for college with no degree and a part time job. And you may answer that colleges give students loans but most people, more than 75 million millennials, struggle paying them off(Wasik). And once they graduate they are not guaranteed a job and even so if they get a job it may not be able to pay of $60,000 and the interest that comes with the loan which will take a while to fully pay
