As a graduating senior, there are many stressful, but necessary preparation needed so we are ready for the next chapter of our lives. Whether I’m looking to find a job, going to graduate school, or take times off, these preparation and skills are still essential to have. Among all the enrichment activities, I have chosen “Informational Interview” and “The Job Search and Social Media”. My main focus currently is to find a job upon graduation; I want to acquire some work experience, and if necessary, graduate school will be an option down the road. Physical appearance and communication are keys. Therefore practices are extremely crucial, and I personally have had a few mock interviews. Here is the one informational interview I did for the enrichment activity. The person who I asked for the informational interview, her name is Anne Weiss; she is currently a Global Investment Staff at MIT Investment Management Company. I met her through my father’s business partner, and we have been staying in touch since. Before we conducted the interview, I prepared numbers of potential questions that may be asked in a real interview setting. My preparation is targeting ESPN, which is the field I’m going into for career path. Anne and I spoke for about an hour via phone; she asked me random questions based on her knowledge, and provided feedback in the end of our conversation. Linkedin has become a critical tool for networking, connections, and job search. During my freshman and sophomore years, the university has been suggesting students to have a Linkedin account. However I didn’t start actively using it until the recent year. There are a lot to learn on the platform, and through this activity, I was able to observe five other connections and learn from their profiles. I learn that the profile picture is important; most people chose to have a profile that he/she smiles, they also chose pictures from a professional setting. One thing I do not like some of the profiles is the quality of their pictures; low quality picture perhaps gives bad impression or unable to give impression for viewers. I can also tell if someone put a lot of work and attention to their profile, for example, their experience at a position is well explained, skills and endorsement section is well thought out and presented. I usually do not like when an individual puts “Microsoft word” and “Microsoft excel” at the top of their skills and endorsement; I prefer attributes that are more related to their actual skills and field. In that case, viewers can get a better idea on the person’s quality and strength. Linkedin provides a great way to stay connected with people from the industry; it also gives me an opportunity to tell others who I am, what my skills are, and what field I’m interested in. I have
