Informational Interview Paper

For my informational interview I spoke with a nurse who has experience working on a medical surgical unit in a hospital setting. She has been a nurse for 10 years. She also has her bachelors degree in nursing. I started my interview by introducing myself and explaining what my assignment was about, and how she could help me tremendously with answering some questions regarding her nursing career, and what she does as a medical surgical nurse.

I started by asking her how she decided upon this career, and she stated that her mother was a nurse as well, and she admired her mother for the work she did with patients. The nurse I interviewed had started by becoming a CNA to test the waters so to speak, to determine if the healthcare field would be a good fit for her. I learned that this particular nurse had gone to Southern Maine Community College to receive her associate’s degree in nursing and then transferred to another college to complete the …show more content…

She said that there are more and more educational opportunities being offered to staff. She said that continued education continues to build, and is highly supported by health care institutions. She said that electronic medical records continue to grow and expand, offering nurses easy access to charting, less time consuming documentation, therefore, allowing them more time to spend on patient care, not constant charting.

I think that the information that I learned from the nurse was very informative and help to confirm all the information that I found when researching the nursing career on the O’NET. The nurse was very honest and frank about what her job entails, as well as showing me how rewarding the job can really be. This interview was very helpful in affirming that nursing is a career that I want to be a significant part of. I look forward to finishing my education and practicing as a registered
