Gender Inequality has been an issue that has been faced by mankind since the beginning. Men were looked upon as bread winner for the family. It was their job to go out of the house and get food and supplies for the family. Women are known to stay home and take care of the family. This trend has put women at a disadvantage in the workplace. Women are not given the same opportunity as men. They are seen weaker, and slower than men. Due to this they are given non important jobs that pay less and keeps them from advancing. Gender pay gap has been an issue that has been around from the start and nothing has been done to fix that. Well first because it is not fair. Why should females do the same job as males and not get paid the same? It just does not make sense. In a society where we thrive for equality no matter who you are or how you look or where you are from gender equality should be the first thing that should be fixed in order to fix the rest. There are many different things that can be done end gender pay gap. First and foremost, we as a society have to look at males and females as equal. A perfect example of this is this year’s election. There was a female candidate and a male candidate. Many people did not vote for the female candidate not because they did not agree with her ideas, instead they did not vote for her because of the sole reason that she is a female. People did not want her to be in office and be a leader. They did not think that she had the capability of being a leader only because she is a woman. That mentality needs to stop. Being equal as a society can then influence the companies to treat employees the same which can then promote equal pay. I always have been for equal pay. I want everyone to get paid for what they work for. The harder you work and put time into your work the better pay you should have. Your pay should not depend on what gender you are. “Fewer women may apply for stereotypically male jobs if more people oppose gender equality rights” (Simon, Tuor, and Bakes 2016). A lot of the time, women do not go for jobs they do not think they are going to get. They do not even try to get the job. For example, there is a very small amount of female workers in the field of construction. That is a job that is full of physical labor and many employers prefer men for those jobs. However, this does not say that women should not work in construction. The idea of rejection by the employer stops many women from applying for the job. The problem with this is that it is not certain that they would not get the job so there is no reason to why they should apply for those jobs. Getting those jobs can level the field for both gender which then can shrink the gender pay gap. Another thing that affects gender pay gap is educational attainment within genders. “In addition, the educational qualifications of men and women have converged. In fact, since the 1980s, the gender gap in college enrollment in the United States has been reversed, in favor of women, because of an increase in women’s educational attainment coupled with a slowdown in men’s attainment of professional degrees” (Hadas, and Semyonov 2014).
