How Students Behave In Class

As a student at Lampasas High School, I have noticed many students who differ in shape, size, and backgrounds which lead to their many different behaviors. In every classroom, there is always the class clown, the teacher’s pet, and the student many didn’t even know existed because they’re always passed out in the back of the classroom. I have discovered that the way my peers act in class speaks volumes about how they may act outside of class. The way students behave in class can be categorized into three groups, the overachievers, the slackers, and the uncivil. The overachievers sit towards the front of the class if given the choice. Most likely being the class pet, they take notes on everything the teacher says and are less likely to get in trouble. To insure that their grades are the best that they can be, these students will go above and beyond. In class, overachievers are the students who write down every helpful thing the teacher might say, who always have their hands raised to answer a question, and who always ask for extra credit. Student A, for example, is a straight A student, and when she isn't working on homework or studying, she is participating in or even leading different clubs, anything that looks good on a college application. On the other hand, Slackers will most likely not do anything at all, while uncivil students might only strive for the bare minimum to pass. Every high school has the overachievers, the uncivil, and the slackers. Being a full time student, I have grown to know many people from these different groups. It is important to remember that even though the way students act in class is not always the most respectful or the most attentive, no one other than themselves really knows what else is going on in that person’s life. Judging a student based on their behavior is not absolutely definitive of their personality. Classifications this broad should not give students an idea of how to act, because being an overachiever and making school and college your top priority is not always the most important thing in the world.
