Growing Up In Disney Movies

Growing up, Disney movies were the main source of entertainment. They taught me the importance of facing my fears and the value of never giving up. Of course, when I was five, these messages did not stand out to me. Instead, I saw what it is like to be a princess, how great having an animal sidekick would be, and how extraordinary high school would be. I had a vivid picture in my mind about what high school was, but when I actually got to that point in my life, I saw how different it turned out to be. As a child, the thing I was looking forward to the most was the random, yet perfectly choreographed, dance numbers and songs. High School Musical made me look forward to being able to magically sing and dance in time with my peers in order to recreate the moments as seen on T.V. Unfortunately for me, these dreams never became a reality. Even now, as a high school student, I sing like a dying cat and dance like a fish out of water. I also do not think our school would be able to spontaneously know all the words to a song none of us had heard and sing it without a flaw. For me, this was probably the greatest downfall. People do not get thrown into trash cans, nor do bullies continuously degrade their victims simply because their parents are not as wealthy as their own; like in Camp Rock. Although the social structure is over dramaticized in Disney movies, it is relatively spot on. There are the populars, mostly composed of athletic guys and pretty girls; there are the socially awkward, these are the intelligent kids or the shy ones; there are the average people, which most of the school is made up of; and, of course, the drama kids, the overly outgoing, yet extremely talented, students. Just like in Disney movies, everyone has their place but, it is more free flowingㅡ people do not have to stick to their status
