These days it’s harder than ever to make it to college and after you get debt after debt to repay the loans you owe. Even with any type of scholarship, it is expensive to still go to school. On average statistics show that a private college can cost around $34,740 a year for a lower end school and a public can be $9,970 a year says college analysts Matt Patton. Also, it is hard enough already in college with the grade standards and everything else that is involved in college. There is no doubt that college is expensive, price tags for some universities go over a quarter of a million for just a bachelors degree! (That’s if you graduate in four too). The extravagant price for college is no doubt crazy. Trying to better yourself and your future shouldn’t cost $250,000 plus. If public universities were to be free a plethora of problems could be solved instantly. According to Forbes the National student loan debt has surpassed 1.2 trillion dollars (Denhart )! This number is growing exponentially as more students enroll in to college. Why question then whether college should be free? Well, this number is the total amount of student loan debt from all students that have exited college. Some of these students are freshly graduated while some are aged with the wisdom trying to pay their loans back. If public universities were to be free and funded by our federal government, our government would pay this amount within ten years. Relatively a short amount of time considering that the student loan debt is an accumulation debt from students that have graduated more than ten year ago, also this also greatly increase with the following years as well.
College is a great way of figuring out what you are and what you want to become. People who are against those who turn professional at an early age say that education should be a top of their list of priorities. “Education and college prepares you for a life outside of sports”, states a columnist from brainevent.com. I too am a firm believer in this, and I also believe that children should continue their education as long as possible. Getting educated helps better your life and molds you into a well rounded person.

By choosing a career you’re interested in will help you extremely. Even if people are worried college will be difficult, it isn’t that harmful at first. There are plenty of jobs without college as well. An example on some jobs are a plumber and private detectives. By going to college though you have less a chance of losing your future job. There are plenty of jobs that you can get to the college experience as well. Some examples from 100 best jobs would be a Dentist and Physician assistant. College, a gateway for expanding the horizons within our youth has many conflicting ideas due to it's cost, suggesting that it may not even be worth it. Yet thinking about having this privilege of exposing our minds to anything and everything we desire while providing ourselves with far more opportunity in the future makes every late night double shift, staying up until 3 am, living off ramen noodles well worth it.
