Let me tell you about the science behind the birds and the bees. In this paper the author will explore the physical growth a fetus from conception to birth. An individual experiences three different stages while inside a mother’s womb; Germinal, Embryonic, and Fetal periods when the most extreme changes occur. Germinal Stage
The germinal stage of development starts with the fertilization and lasts about fourteen days. Fertilization occurs when a male’s sperm make the successful trip through the fallopian tubes and fuse with the female egg. The baby’s genes and sex are determined at this instant. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact day of conception, so the doctor will begin counting the pregnancy from the first day of the mothers last menstrual period. The zygote can then travel toward the uterus, a voyage that can take up seven whole days to finish. Within the next twenty-four to thirty-six hours the cells will begin to divide and grow. From day twenty-four to day fifty-six the cell mass is called an embryo in this stage and begins to take the form of a human. The embryo is divided into three layers which each will form an integral body systems. At approximately twenty-two days after conception, the neural tube forms giving that will develop into the central nervous system including the spinal cord and brain. Around the fourth week, the head, the eyes, nose, ears, and mouth begin to take shape. The cardiovascular system is where the earliest movement begins as primitive heart starts to pulse. During the fifth week small protrusions form that mark where the extremities will mature. By day fifty-fourth day of the pregnancy, the finger and toes are distinguishable. At the end of this stage near the eight week of development, the embryo will have all of the groundwork and basic organs excluding the of the sex organs.
