The Fantasia experience was the result of students being unable to meet outside of class to attend a concert together. I was eager to attend not only to earn a grade, but also to see how my opinions of the movie have changed over time. I found Fantasia to be intellectually stimulating and more intriguing now than I did when I was a young child. When I was younger, I did not enjoy Fantasia. The lack of visual storyline was unappealing. For example, the visual for “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” was different colored lights illuminating the band. This piece was designed to draw the attention of the audience, as it was the only one that featured a well known Disney character (Mickey). It was quite pleasant to see a familiar face in the movie, and to see the piece that is considered his comeback. This segment is one that anyone can enjoy, whereas the movie overall requires an audience of a certain age to fully appreciate what is being done. Although the technical difficulties caused a delay, the whole night came together quite nicely. This concert experience definitely raised the bar for all future concert experiences! Helping set up the concert really set a good tone for the night as we worked our way through club soda explosions, cookie smashing, and grape dropping. What I enjoyed most was that everyone was able to joke and have a good time, like any other small venue experience. There was no awkwardness amongst the audience, which I was slightly worried about as I had not talked with my classmates as much as I probably should have. Nonetheless, the Fantasia experience was much better than expected. Overall, I think that the movie Fantasia was rather thought provoking. On one hand, one must analyze the music and decide on what the piece means to them. On the other, one must also take the animated artwork into account and analyze that as well. In some cases, the animated artwork would match the scenario I imagined based on the song. In others, it did not. I would love to repeat the Fantasia concert experience again with a different
