Professionalism is a state of mine, a way of “being,” “knowing,” and “doing” that sets you apart from others (Health care professionals xiii). The mindset, an individual has plays a big part in how people will perceive them. Earning the respect and honor of being called a health care professional depends on how the individual carries themselves each and every day they walk in the door to come to work. Professionalism, The skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/professionalism).

Vendors are a major part of a clinic setting. We have vendors who will just pop in to clinic wanting to talk with the provider. I must politely screen them and make a judgement call as to if it is important or a routine visit and they would just like to look into the sample closet. If they would just like to look into the sample closet I will show them the way and let them know if they need a providers signature when they are done to please let me know and I will be more than happy to assist them with getting the proper information they will need. This not only helps the flow of clinic but allows both the vendor and physician to continue with their intended duties for that moment without slowing either down. A sample closet can and have been a problem in many clinic settings and is an area that we all must realize professionalism is extremely required just because there is samples does not mean you can help yourself at any time. The provider is signing for the samples and it is logged in the patient’s charts each time one is given out so the provider is responsible for anything missing from the sample
