This study is about dancing and with the focus on the effects that injuries sustained to the foot, ankle, and toes of dancers have, more specifically the metatarsophalangeal joints of the foot. Some background stated in the introduction as to why the foot receives a lot of injuries to these joints could be “overuse with little rest and recovery and repetative movements throughout a six-hour rehearsal for a span of five to six days before rest.” Some of the injuries stated that could occur are “sprains to the metatarsophalangeal joint, hallux valgus and ridges, bunions and tendon injuries because of how they cross the foot.” Like mentioned before, these injuries are more prone for dancers because of the extreme amount of “dorsiflexion and plantar …show more content…

When I was in dance, I did it just for fun, about a three-hour class of four different types of dance-ballet, jazz, hip hop and tumbling too. I had friends who were also in competitive dance, so they would be putting in about the same amount of hours as these athletes in this study did. I knew that with dancing and with all sports really, you are putting a lot of force on your feet and toes. Sometimes you just need a little information as to what these movements are and how they are completing them. Some people do not know dance lingo. It would have been nice to find a deffinet conclusion and research question about this research article compared to just the purpose of the study. The charts did make it a little easier to visual see the results but the charts are hard to comprehend because I do not understand what the graphs mean. This article can influence society by showing dancers ways to prevent injuries to the feet and toes. This can also be helpful for other athletes that have sustained injuries as well. It also shines a little into the activity of dancing as a sport. Dancing can be overlooked as not being a sport, but you can go professional and have a career out of it just like other athletes do. It also shows that dancers can become injured just like regular athletes can because of how demanding and stressful this sport is on the
