Monogamy

The debate for monogamy is supported by human morals, Sociological influences, and religious text written thousands of years ago. Our morals consist of emotional responses throughout one's life, sociology both accepts and forbids divorce, and everyone, in actuality, are atheist; you may believe in one god but refute another. It can be concluded that monogamy doesn’t work by the use of statistics, factual evidence, and personal experience.

Did you know that homosapiens are within but a small fraction of mammals that practice monogamy? According to Jeanna Bryner, Managing Editor of LiveScience “ Only 3% to 5% of the roughly 5,000 species of mammals (including humans) are known to form lifelong, monogamous bonds.” Perhaps it is our
Psych Central’s Tracy Rydzy talks of her personal experience of divorce. Tracy was married for 5 years and her husband declared divorce on her 35th birthday. In her experience, she states, “If you ask his side of the story he will tell you the love simply died. I have a very different view of the situation, one that includes dishonesty, but what good does it do to point fingers? It will not change the outcome.” This quote talks about the different perceptions of both her husband and herself. She believes her marriage ended due to fights and lies, and her husband believes that the bond simply faded. The lack of understanding one another perceptions further the implication of different brain processes, and supporting the notion that men and women cannot be monogamous due to psychological differences.

The argument regarding monogamy is in fact a controversial one. Some believe it is human nature and in our moral code to maintain monogamous relationships, and others believe it is a societal indoctrinated concept based on past religious beliefs and our emotional susceptibility.
