Statement of the Problem Communication in an organization can be difficult and may lead to misunderstanding. This is as a result of factors such as environmental stimuli and culture which may result in misunderstanding between parties. ( Owizy, 2012). This will result in communication breakdown and even conflict among workers within an organization. A positive result of communication is that employees fell important. Effective communication in the workplace results in long lasting employee motivation (motivational skills, 2013). Employee turnover is important as the replacement of an employee can negatively affect productivity, expenses and overall performance. Effective communication leads to low employee turnover. Barret (2006) suggests, that lack of communication or ineffective communication can cause skewed understanding of what a manager or supervisor says that might be detrimental to work description and details. This can impact negatively on carrying out work appropriately. This offers more illumination on some of the findings in the interviews done at the custodial department of Northern Caribbean University. After interviews with workers and supervisors of the department, on issues they face in dealing with communication from or communicating to their supervisors these are the findings: Wokrers had issues with the mannerism of their supervisors and say it does affect how they do work and their wanting to change jobs or leave the job. There were also issues with tasks not properly given and hence having workers having trouble with their job description and tasks, even having to do a job twice enrages some and poses a threat to the turnover intent. The supervisor perceive that with talking that creates a power struggle as workers will have more wants and demands and may work more efficiently with less communicating. It is in their belief that there is excessive talking from workers and this deters them from wanting to communicate with
